Still seems to have a semi-reflective metallic look to most of the surfaces though, bit of a turn off.

I'm not saying it doesn't look pretty, but no developer will use it till there are consoles that can handle it, and there's barely even rumours about the next gen ones yet. They'll only get here in, what, 2 years? Kinda just makes me sad we won't be seeing this jump up for a while...

Thats why we have PC games to take advantage of new graphic tech

Not impressed.

I'm sure the tech is crazy good, but their stills and subject matters are not exactly inspiring. Loads of polygons density doesn't mean anything these days. Crytek present their tech better.

Unreal will probably scale very well to console levels. They've been very successful.

Funny thing is this engine is already a couple of years behind the capabilities of the PC platform.

They have lost the knack of making games which appeal to the majority of PC gamers - face it, the trend since COD4 has always been towards the military man-shoot "three bullets and you are dead" kind of games.

An arena-based, non-class specific multi-player twitch FPS is now very much a niche thing because that kind of gameplay takes an insane amount of skill and muscle-memory. Most ppl prefer the "slow run, fast death" style of play.

Besides, purely from the numbers, Epic has major franchises on console, raking them a lot of money to plough back into the next-gen. Like it or not, we PC gamers are beholden to this in many respects.

Also, before criticising them too much, look at how much they promoted the use of UE3 on PC with the Make Something Unreal Contest, and all the fan-made maps and mods for UT3. I think ppl can be a bit too harsh on Epic.
