LG IPS 27inch 3d/120hz 2560x1440 monitor

LG are releasing a new range of IPS monitors (including 3D) in July. They announced it in a press-release last week relating to a sponsorship deal with a bunch of pro gamers in the Global Starcraft II League.

Great publicity stunt there by LG. They are offering gamers some free budget IPS monitors and claim it is to reduce eye fatigue or something - a thing that panel type has little to do with nowadays. And they're also keen to point out a reduction in blur - well that's all relative. Compared to responsive TN panel monitors those gamers would be used to gaming on - clutching at straws there LG. The IPS4 series is not really radically different to their existing IPS monitors. 60Hz, 1920 x 1080 resolution and possibly with poorly implemented grey to grey acceleration - http://www.pcmonitors.org/news/lg-ips4-series-including-ips234.

I don't see what this has to do with 120Hz or 2560 x 1440 parts. That does suggest that their Cinema 3D 2012 models (which should include the DM92) will be available 'shortly after' July which is open to some interpretation. The thing is LG don't have any IPS panels using FPR in production that aren't 1080p 60Hz parts.

Don't feel stupid! The article is designed to be sensationalist and suggestive. If you take it at face value then it's easy to get excited about. But if you've seen this kind of thing lots of times before you can see they are whistling that same old tune. ;)

I wanted to get excited about it :)
Ever since I RMAd my 3-week-old Hazro I've been looking for a replacement. I was hoping the next LG monitors might fit the bill. Guess I will keep looking. Sods Law says that if I buy a U2711 then Dell will announce a new model the week after I get mine :(

Hehe I know the feeling! I am not sure if this would be of much comfort but I am fairly confident that Dell will be launching a 27" U2711 replacement this year. Obviously nothing concrete yet but it's due a replacement and LG have some panels in production or to be produced this year that would fit the bill. They might not have cracked the 120Hz IPS nut but they seem to have found a way to yield extended colour gamuts (something a true U2711 replacement would require) from white LED backlights. It might be sad but that is something I am quite interested in as far as possible monitor developments for this year go. :D

Thanks PCM2. It is some comfort :)

I will keep my fingers crossed for a U2711 replacement from Dell and stick with my trusty old Hanns G for a while longer.
