Personal hotspot dissapeared

Hello,

Tried all usual solutions and none work. Can a operator turn this off? To me it seems my operator T-Mobile has turned it off.

When resetting my phone network setting and the going to 'set up personal hotspot' I get a message saying ' To enable a personal hotspot on this device, contact T-Mobile UK'

Has the new update enabled network providers to control your tethering settings?

Edit: This is on a 4S which was updated to 5.1 the other day.
 
I thought this was always the case. On my iPhone 4 I had a contract with no tethering enabled and never got the Personal Hotspot option (on Orange). Took new contract out on Orange again for the 4S which included tethering and had the option there since day one.

Not sure why they would take it away though, take it T-Mobile haven't made any changes to their tariffs or anything?
 
No, I have 3GB fair usage data (true unlimited really) with T-Mobile. Used tethering for a year and half and suddenly today it is impossible to get it to work and I now get the message as said above.

Seems to me the new update has gave them power over your iPhone's personal hotspot settings. Type it into google and you will see a lot of people have the same issue.
 
Now that Tmobile and Orange share transport networks whenever your phone shows "T Mobile Orange" as the network provider Personal Hotspot will just disappear from the menu...really ****es me off. This is because Orange don't support tethering.

If I'd known this was going to happen I'd have bought a 3g ipad.

I tether with my iphone 4s on orange all the time and i have no problems with it.
 
I am on Orange but choose T-Mobile in the network list so it joins the joint network (scrolls Orange T Mobile at the top which, annoyingly, throws the 3G symbol right across) and have no issues tethering on that. Option for Personal hotspot always remains in my Settings

Exactly the same for me.

Although i choose orange as my default network, half the day it roams between the two and i never lose the option for personal hotspot.
