Hi all,

I`ve decided to make a list of cars which are not popular in this country but in my opinion you get a lot for money with them, you will have to face high bills for most of them though after purchase. Maybe it will be some use to some of you.

BMW 7 Series

760Li, 11,000 pounds buys you are limousine class car with 445 bhp, massaged seats, cooled, heated,tv,phones, electric blinds... it has got it all... However it is an older model, newer ones with similar spec are around 16,000

Audi A8

A8, you get different engines but in my opinion most value-for-money is W12 version, 6.0 Engine, Quattro, 450hp, 0-62, 5.2 seconds. Interior is worse than BMW 7 series though. But you still get a lot of toys.

Maseratti Quattroporte

You can argue its less of a car than previous 2, but it is Italian and is close to Lamborghini, Ferrari range, 18,000

Mercedes Benz

4.7 Seconds 0-62, you can make big boys worry with that, 18,000

Vauxhall VX220

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif.../page/1/radius/1501/postcode/cb42nz?logcode=p

Built by Lotus in Lotus factory, If I am not wrong, similar performance to Lotus Elise but cheaper but has Vauxhall badge, around 7,000 pounds, fast and economical, but not comfortable, top gear did review of this car.

Porsche Cayenne

4x4, 450bhp, 0-62 5.6 seconds... It is a 4x4 and it is a Porsche for 14,000.

Nissan GT-R

Great car in my opinion, 0-62 3.5S some even done it quicker, will outrun some Ferarries and Lambos. For a fraction of the cost.

BMW M3

Even though M3`s are popular and expensive for 8,000 a car that does 0-62 in 5.2 Seconds, I think its a great value.

Please feel free to correct me, or add new ones.. All this is just my personal opinion and I am sure there will be people who think otherwise and argue that this is a lot of ********

That's all fine and dandy but what people forget (especially with the Maserati) is that it was originally a £100k car, and that it had servicing costs of that sort of level and it still does.

Since when was a Nissan GT-R "unsung", or not popular for that matter?

Cheap for the performance, yes, but everyone knows that.

Rather than unsung heroes, this appears to be a thread of cars (GT-R aside) with epic depreciation. You could pick any big engined thirsty barge and it would probably qualify as they are very unpopular right now with rising fuel prices. Phaeton W12, MB S/CL55 etc.

Hardly unsung heros are they? There isn't anyone who doesnt know how good an M3 is and frankly the one you've picked is 10 years old and STILL £8k which to me appears to be holding its value quite well, especially as its likely to be one of the numerous less-nice examples as well. You'll pay even more for a good one.

Mondial.. less than 10 year old cars only I presume. Any vague estimations on how expensive it is on a 9 year old V12 7 series? :p

e.g 70k miles.

Why did you cling to that "unsung heroes" as first line of the post says I meant "you get a lot for money with them" :/

How popular is M3 against other cars like golf`s and ford fiestas/focuses??

The entire title of your thread is 'unsung heros'?

If you think you get a lot for your money when you buy a 10 year old BMW for £8k then don't look at the prices of 15 year old Jaguars, you'll have a heart attack.

What?

Why would you even compare an M3 to a Fiesta?

GT-R aside ? :p 2009 example cost new 55,740 now it costs 35,000... 20,000 in 3 years, thats a 1/3 of a car price gone.

Popularity and comparison is 2 different things really :/

Well jaguars... they break a lot dont they :D

and yeah I do think you get a lot from that M3 for 8 grand.. how much you going to pay for a new car that would do 0-62 in 5.2 seconds???

Why are you comparing a 10 year old car with a new car?

If performance is all that matters and age doesn't then why not spend £2k on an MR2 Turbo?

I think what you actually mean by this thread is:

WOW look how cheap old performance cars are, which is hardly a shocker tbh.

Quite a few cars on your list are well known excellent cars.

It's easy to see why these cars are so cheap.

They cost big money to run and people who can afford to run them can afford to buy newer ones. Therefore with the exception of the small amount that stay with particular enthusiasts of that particular car, as they get cheaper and older they begin to get owned in increasing numbers by people who can't really afford them but don't realise/don't care they can't, so they get bodged and fall into disrepair before eventually just dying.

Then one day 80% of them are dead leaving only the 20% that were kept by enthusiasts and end up being considered rare classics, which then appreciate.

Becase Mazda Rx-8 is newer, looks better, has nicer interior and faster and costs the same :)

What is this thread trying to achieve?

I'm now going to buy a 6.0 litre A8 for a pittance...

Me: my gearbox just went on my A8 mate.
Audi specialist: no worries, sir, a new one is only 6k.
Me: oh right...
