Hey all,

Microsoft Office is available for the Mac, but with the likes of the Mac App Store becoming more and more popular, other alternatives are becoming available...

So my question is... What apps do you use as; Word Processors, Spreadsheet Managers, Presentation Tools etc.?

Thanks,

Marky

I use Microsoft Office for Mac 2011. I switch between using Windows machines running Office 2010 and my Mac quite a bit so it's just easier as the two version as almost identical (for the functions I use them for anyway).

Had I not been able to buy it for ~£40 because I am a student I would have problem given Pages a go from the App Store.

I have both MS Office 2011 and iWork '09, which one I use depends on the task, although Office gets most of the attention.

Personally use Pages, merely because it is dirt cheap and does the job fantastically well. More logical to use than Word IMO.

That said, if you require full compatibility with Office, that is obviously the way to go. I personally export all my work to PDFs.

That's a shame I was hoping there was an amazing office app I didn't know about :p But it looks like Microsoft still hold the title for best office suite software!

I've tried LibreOffice, iWork and MS Office and in then end decided Office was best. You can download iWork from the Apple site for a 30 day trial in case you want to try before you buy.

I get so fed up of Excel on OS X that I actually virtualise my bootcamp partition using VMWare Fusion and use Office 2010 instead.

Office 2011 for Mac is shockingly bad. Performance is atrocious.

In what way, I've not seen any issues? Genuinely interested as I've been thinking of removing my Windows VM. Will keep it if I might run into issues.

Never met any issues yet. What issues are you having? Slowness isn't a problem here.

Open up any decent sized (>5MB) excel file and scroll.

Do the same in windows.

You will find that it scrolls better, macros work a lot faster (and I mean 10x faster) etc etc etc.

I have a Mac Pro 3.33Ghz with a 6870, you can't buy a mac with better hardware, yet Excel still sucks.

I was processing 5 million data points a while back (30MB file) and I managed to macro though all of the data in 5 mins in my virtualised Excel, I got to 15 minutes of running the same process in Office 2011 and gave up!

I haven't need to use large excel spreadsheets so not come across those issues. Will bear it in mind for the future.
