Geneology, sometimes it's better not knowing

One side of my family was very very poor, basically in poverty, and the other side comfortably wealthy. The wealthy side had my great-great grandfather who was a master builder who designed some decent buildings in Birkenhead.

This is my dad's forte, not mine though. Very interesting nevertheless.

My dads uncle is a womanising cheating sob who is marked for death in most of the British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos and Trinidad due to being a prosecutor in a lot of drug related 'mob' cases, his son was shot in the head in Miami when some people found out who he was, lucky git survived, walks with a cane for life but thats minor lol. Did not know this until a yr ago when i mentioned how rude it was he came to England and didn't come visit, my dad says he probably has to stay away from highly West Indian populated areas. For years i've been told to never mention our relation to strangers, now i know why

My great great grand father was imprisoned for a long time for saving a black ex slave from being hit to death by a wooden plank or something by throwing hot molasses on a sugar estate supervisor. The ex slave got some time too

Great great uncle decapitated his wife and 3 out of 8 children with a machete after an argument, he shot a police officer (didn't die) and escaped, eventually he was killed by the police 3 yrs later when they tracked him to a river community somewhere near Venezuala

All history of my family only dates back to the mid 1800s or so due to them being indentured indian servants who ended up in Guyana/Trinidad etc.. so all Indian heritage/family etc. is unknown.

I note a lot of fellas in their 60s and 70s have told me things were just as bad back then, there were no 'good ol days', its just that it wasn't publicised as well as today.

Would have thought it would have changed in 50 years. It might have been a good thing that peoples lives were not made public because the people working in the 'media' wants to make a living and be paid for their stories.

It's actually quite sick that someone wants to make money from your life in media.
