Im deffo going to upgrade my CPU cooler, and this appears to be at a great price.

My main requirement is quietness, but this extreme cooler, supports 2 x 120mm fans.

Where do these fit on, as it looks exactly the same size as a normal cooler (It doesn't look like the H100).

Does dual fan mean a push-pull configuration? Whats the best set-up in terms of an OC to approx 4-4.5GHZ on a i5 2700k and near-silent operation

It doesn't have to be the max OC, I just want a good OC with the best noise levels. (I prefer silent cooling). I've looked at the apache black fans, and I'll be definately purchasing one of them. Wouldn't two fans be loud?

What if i put one apache black, and one low RPM fan, like a noctua for example. How would I set it up like this to provide good airflow, but also lowest noise levels?

Or would it be better if i got a phanteks?

Replies much appreciated

Would the phanteks be a lot quieter than an all-in-one cpu cooler with an akasa apache fan?

I'm asking because I'll be purchasing the fractal design r3 as well, and would prefer the heat pushed directly out of the case.

well I decided to purchase it, as its 2 x 120mm fans (got the apaches)

The phanteks has similar sort of fans upon closer inspection, and I can't see it making a lot of difference in a silent case. Pump may make some noise though.

Lets hope its just as quiet as can be. Won't be able to test out till sometime next week now (got it posted for 21st), so will reply back with my thoughts.

O.K. so my bits arrived. Thanks for the Haribos :D

There are no instructions with the cooler

The cooler only has the one 3 pin connector. This I would assume goes in the CPU fan slot, and I plug the additional fans into the sys fan connectors on the mobo, as the unit itself has nowhere to plug any fans into (which I thought it did :o)

Any help appreciated :)

OK, got my new build done this weekend. Easy cooler to install.

i5 3570k Idles at around 30c at stock and under prime95 it touches 50c.

Currently have it @4.5 with 1.27v and I'm running a prime blend test at the mo and the max temps are 75 78 76 72 (just over an hour in) Not bad I suppose :)

How do the fans sound ? I'm gonna have it in a fractal design r3.

Not sure if to use the fan controller, or fan connecters on mobo (thats if my mobo has it.... going to be using the asrock z77 extreme4).

I'll be building mine next week now :(

The apache's are whisper silent. I had to poke a screwdriver in the back grill to check one of them was working :D Very impressed

Coming from an Antec 900 case with all the fans and the Arctic Freezer 7 the difference is amazing with the HAF 932 and this cooler. Can actually go to bed and leave it on lol

mish, can we have some pics of the product please? :)

I'll have to dig out my camera for that & my phone is ancient :o

Tbh, the radiator looks just like the H80 and the heatsink is like the H60

Finally putting this together. Can someone please advise if I need to put the 3 pin for the pump, into the CPU_FAN2 header or PWR_FAN1 header. Im using the asrock extreme4 z77 motherboard.

CPU_FAN1 header is 4 pin, and I've attached one of the akasa fans to there, and the other fan to CHA_FAN1 header (4 pin - chassis fan connecter)

I put my apache into the 4pin and the cpu cooler into a chassis 3pin, have had no problems. I have another case fan in the pwr fan header

Well it was a bit of a stupid question tbh lol. I decided to put the 3 pin for the pump/(connected to heat sink thing) to the CPU_FAN2 header. This gives me temperature read outs etc. Set the fan to level 1 in bios.

CPU_FAN1 is a 4pin header and one of the apache fans is connected to that. The other is connected to CHA_FAN1 header (4 pin - chassis fan connecter) .

Good thing about the motherboard is, the fans can be set to quietest with a temperature option on there dependant on cpu temperature, which I think means the fans kick in at a certain temp.

Plus point is CHA_FAN1 (4 pin chassis fan header to which the 2nd apache is connected to) can also be set up like this.

CHA_FAN2 and CHA_FAN3 (both 3 pin connecters) can only be set to auto or manual (can't be setup dependant on cpu tempereture). I've connected the 2 x fractal design fans that comes with the R3 to these, and have set them to level 1 in bios aswell.

Running very quietly and smoothly!!

Intend to overclock my 3570k to 4.2 (I think its only changing the multiplier to 22)

Excellent board the z77 extreme4, overclockers need to get some stock in, I had to go elsewhere!

I thought the pump connector had to go into a full power header, eg: pwr_fan. So it was always operating at full power.

I'm thinking of getting one of these. I'm not too sure where the pump connector would go either.

its a valid question. Does it need to be PWR_Fan or CPU_Fan ?

Does temperature read outs depend on where you connect what, or was that me being stupid again :|

Btw why would you want to swap for a Noctua, out of curiosity ?

I bought this over the noctua, because I wanted the heat to be pushed directly out of the case (fractal R3 I read get quite warm), whats your reasoning :S

That is actually a good question. I think they're maybe only a few degrees difference in cooling. I do have a Fractal R2. I'm thinking of changing the case tho, to something white with more 5.25" bays.

Maybe its because the D14 is so big. Blocking access to most of my fan headers. Difficultly in changing the gfx card.

Maybe I should just keep the D14?

Entirely upto you. a lot of people who changed the D14 for a all-in-one water cooler were disappointed (just by reading the threads on here).

I would keep the Noctua, if the temps inside the case aren't a problem.
