Hole in Exhaust - 2001 Astra (pic inside)

Hi all,

I traded in my 370z for a 2001 Astra. The 370z just wasn't fast enough and I needed something a bit more upmarket.*

* I have inherited a 2001 astra which hasn't been driven for some time. First inspection i've noted the below huge hole in the exhaust

Bit of cardboard and some blue tac?

Seriously though - how much does a new back box for a 2001 astra run these days? Any places to avoid? Mum was going to take it to kwik fit or such but I recall so many horror stories.

The backbox it's self will be about £30.

just fill it with exhaust putty, not worth spending anything on an old astra

How you finding it compared to the 370z? Does it feel much quicker? Bet it sounds much beefier...

DIY, common for them to rot there for some reason!

I replaced the whole system on my wife's car, whole lot cost about £70.

Your exhaust is far more than fixing a hole.

Buy a new backbox it will only be about £30 + fitting (could easily do a backbox yourself).

does the hole go right through? had similar thing on mine though it didnt look as bad on mine but anyway theres a sort of skin on the back box, mine had rusted a bit and i thought it was knackered but when i had a look and started pulling it off thats when i noticed the layers so might be worth having a look. Wouldnt think it would take all that long to fit a new back box though

backboxes are easily done DIY, like mentioned just go to your local motorfactors. £30 seems way too cheap though, i payed £75 for a MK3 backbox years back

Expect skinned knuckes and cue lots of swearing as you jack it off the pipe end.

Make sure you have liberal quantities of release oil etc.

DIY job yes.
