Just how reliable are the H80s and H100s?

I had the noisy pump issue with the H100, was going to try the diode mod until one of the fans got stuck on full and I spent a fortune sending it back to Corsair. Awaiting a replacement now.

I had a noisy pump too, but DID the diode mod. Now it's silent and I don't think the stock fans are that loud on the second setting - they don't spin up to full speed until the coolant gets to a certain temp (perhaps I have good airflow).

With IBT on maximum my CPU doesn't exceed 70 deg (only 54 deg when gaming).

I might replace the fans eventually with GT 1850's, but it's not a priority.

I much prefer the clean look a closed loop solution provides (with the bonus of no maintenance like with full water cooling - I'm not that experienced a system builder . . . yet).

Hope this helps.

I had a H80 for a few days before it died on me.

Whilst there are many who are happy with them I am not alone in finding faults with them.

I have been thinking about getting one of these for my system.

I currently have a Thermaltake Frio Advanced (dual fan) cooler on top of my i7 3820 @ stock 3.6GHz. I get high 20 to early 30 C idle temperatures and ran Prime95 for 20 minutes and my highest reading was 52 C. I use Akasa 450 thermal compound. At the moment I think those temperatures are fine but am looking at watercooling to knock off a few more (maybe down to 25 C idle) and primarily make it quieter as I know that they aren't going to take a huge cunk off my current temperatures. Are these water coolers quiet?

My main question is just how reliable are they? I've seen threads and posts on here saying the pumps fail a lot and one person had 2-3 in the space of 6 months. Are they just unlucky or are these water coolers notorious for failing after short periods?

I have just went to liquid cooling with an H100 after being on air my whole life, I was scared at first as I had heard some horror stories about leaks and noise and stuff, but rest assured, I have no problems at all with the H100.

You just wire it up, set it to full speed setting and then the fans will ramp up when under stress and then slow down when not under stress.

I dont hear a big deal of noise off it at all, maybe if you run a stress test then yes of course you will hear the fans ramp up a bit but to me its not massively loud like some people seem to say.

I guess it all depends on what you personally think might be loud and quiet, for me its not a big deal at all, if you want to hear a loud fan then listen to an AMD 6990 graphics card when its clocked and under heavy stress, now thats extremely loud, lol, like a jet engine, lol.

But nah, the H100 is fine man, well I think so anyway, just my 2p's worth :)

I beg to differ :p I find the closed waterloops to be ugly the air coolers to look beautiful and custom water loops are even better looking than air coolers :p

Most ugliest thing i've seen is the d14. Air coolers are great for cooling though but if you have a side window and like to show off the internals then I find a great big chunk of metal sticking out covering half your mobo is uglier than a dogs turd.
My beautiful Antec kuhler h20 920 looks awesome in my window with its antec lit logo, and it's quite too with 2 Apache black fans and low temps.
:D:D:D:D

as a side note, id like to know how the OcUK brand ones compare to these :)

The same in almost every way, as the OcUK cooler (h2flo extreme) is just an unbranded H80, though its £5 less it doesn't come with any fans and only has a 2 year warranty* compared to the H80/100's 5 years.

*Product description no longer states warranty length, I'm pretty sure it used to say 2 years.

All in all the H80 is the better buy of the two. OcUK need to slash £10 off the h2flo extreme to make it an attractive buy again.

Bought H100 and installed in system a month now. Very happy with it.

I replaced the stock fans due to noise with Scythe 120mm that I had lying around.
