Closing my ear gauges

Rather than start another thread I thought I would ask in here. I've elongated my neck with Kayan style brass rings and I now want to take them off in order to perform better in job interviews. The only problem is my neck now lolls over to one side without them. Does anyone have any tips? It wasn't a fad or anything, it was deeply important to me but now I think I look better in a nice pair of brogues and a well cut suit.

Have you considered a very firm tie to hold your wavering neck in check? I've heard it's all the rage in the fancy London town you know!

I felt the same way as you dude, also had mine strecthed to 10mm but I didn't want it to be viewed negatively by employers so I took mine out. That was about 3 months ago and it's now just a slit. I know my current employer won't care as I mostly work from home (he's actually a member of the forum, and it seems, has brass rings around his neck. I doubt he even knew, until this post, about any ear piercing haha...don't fire me) and I hate the idea that people will judge you on the basis of what's in your ear lobe, but unfortunately people do.

So, I would just take it out and not even bother with the smaller ones...I read that massaging your ear encourages blood flow and therefore healing of the cells, and moisturising it is also good.

Thanks for that! I'll ask you the strange question I asked another use earlier.. Could you take a photo of your ear? So I can see what it will look like? :p

You're a lucky man working for a guy with brass rings around his neck!

It does suck that people judge you based on appearance, but it's always the first impression you'll get of someone and first impressions count for a lot, which is unfortunate. :/

Haha well that depends if you make a good impression or not anyway. Here's the picture of my ear. Sorry it's low quality and beardy and potentially dirty :p

this is new information, I will check our HR policy but pretty sure it says no ear douchebaggery ;):D

I heard something like if you scrape the skin off around the inside (eeeeew) then they tend to heal better than just leaving it. Not sure how true that is though.

Sounds about right to me. I'll have to research into that a little more though just to be sure. :)

Thanks!

Christ, that sounds incredibly painful! I'd just leave it to heal to be honest. I reckon mine is now very slightly larger than a normal earring.

Yeeeah, I'm dreading the day an employer asks me to take it out. Managed to get my boss on board with the one I have at the moment, just said "It would look loads worse if I took it out". Win.

And very sad that is too, prejudice shouldn't enter into the decision of suitability for a role.

I quite like this:

You make a semi-permanent and noticeable modification to your body in a place that's not easy to hide in public for a fashion statement, and then expect people (such as employers) not to judge you? Doing something like that says a lot about you as a person and where your priorities lie.

In your photo, the guy has some barely alternative clothes and a tattoo. The clothes can be changed and the tattoo can be covered. It's not the same as ear "gauges".

Personally it doesn't bother me if other people do this to themselves, but you can't expect other people to like it.

You've taken the exact perspective that is the problem. In no way does an earring or a tattoo which isn't visible affect your ability to do your job. If you have to meet with loads of judgemental douchebags then having piercings and tattoos everywhere could become a problem, but the problem is theirs. If they're covered up, then what does it matter. People can do what they want with their bodies.

BoonMonkey, it's been out for around 3 or 4 months, I just took it out randomly one day and never put it back in again.

I honestly don't see how it affects peoples work ethic, even if it's visible.

It's like when I was at school many years ago (3 years. Ha.), people weren't allowed "extreme" hair colours. I don't understand the reasoning as to why not, it doesn't affect the work, it's just hair.

But that's a different matter!

Anyways, thanks for the advice dirtychinchilla, I'll do as ya said and see how it turns out! :)
