I'm thinking about getting a new monitor.

Should I go for another 24" screen to sit alongside my current one, or replace the current with a 27" one?

Hi Chris,

I believe you currently have a 2407 correct?

I used to have one of those, tried a U2410 for a while (2407 was better), then went through a range of 24" including 3D ones and then started on my mission through a few 27"

Recommend without a doubt to go 27" 2560x1440 (dont even look at the 1080p ones).

Think your choices are basically Catleap Variants, Hazro Variants or the Dell U2711. Picture quality wise the Catleap is the better, but for build quality, warranty, peace of mind etc etc the Dell can't be bettered.

Unfortunately it's darn expensive. If it was my money, i'd get a pixel perfect catleap (which I did actually) which will set you back around £215 all in, including any import taxes. You could sell your 2407 for what? £150? Not going to break the bank then.

Catleap is a significant upgrade over what you have now. Once you see 2560x1440 in action you will never go back to 1080p

Never heard of Catleap and I can't see a £215 27" 1440p monitor being better than what I have now?

I'd only touch Dell for monitor's TBH. If I upgraded to 27", it would definitely be 1440p.

Id go with Hazro, maybe try and pick one up from somewhere so you can see it working

I had a U2711 and the antiglare was horrific.

Believe me, the catleap is far FAR superior to the 2407. I actually prefered my catleap to the hazro I used to own.

If you want dell though, and don't mind the dirty screen from the AG coating get the 2711

I upgraded my 2407 and NEC 20" combo to an Apple Thunderbolt display (same panel as Dell 27"). I've found one larger screen is perfect as I still have plenty of space on the desk and more than enough screen space.

In which case I'd rather pay a little extra for the Dell. I would like to see one in person and also not in a shop scenario before shelling out though! Some people seem to hate the anti glare and others love it.

Never had any problems with anti glare on my U2711...a lovely screen...

As you say some hate it while others (like myself) have no issues with it; if you can see one before you buy all the better...

Had a 2407, which was great, then an NEC 24WMGX3, then the U2711...
