Hi all,

Sorry for a possibly dumb question but I'm quite new to the 3D business...

Unplanned I recently picked up a 42" 3D TV by chance at an excellent price, having the novelty of 3D I feel it would be rude not to put it into some use

For 3D blu-ray DVDs, do you require a special 3D blu-ray player? I've googled it and it would seem you do but then there are other sources that suggest you don't...

Can anyone clear this up :)

Cheers,

Yes you need a 3D blu-ray player to watch 3D blu-rays.

Most 3D TV's will convert 2D to 3D but its not the same as watching real 3D, a PS3 is also able to play 3D blu-rays if you have one of those.

Not sure what you mean by special 3d bluray player but all 3D bluray players will play all 3d bluray movies out there :)

Also some movies are not true 3d, you can see the list here on http://realorfake3d.com/ .

Good shout, some of the conversions are absolutely terrible, the worst has to be HP7 Part 1. CGI films look amazing in 3D, and Hugo is a good example of good depth.

I have about 80 3D Blurays now, for those filmed with the proper equipment, it adds a lot to the experience.
