1920x1200 vs 2560x1440/1600

I could not go back to 1920 after 2560. To me it makes a huge difference especially for desktop use. I can have two 1280 pages open next to each other.
Gaming uses more GPU power but I'm using a single 7970 and have had no issues. I would say a 7970 @ 2560x1440 is roughly around the same performance as a 6970 @ 1920x1080p.

what im saying as i would rather go for the real estate on a single screen and get like 27 or 30 " rather than split an image across two screens the bezel would annoy me .

fair enough if you only have one image on each or a film on one and a game on the other

im sure people do have dual monitors with the image split down the middle tho in anycase having a bezel in my line of site would still annoy me whether it be in tyhe middle or at 1/3 2/3 split as in 3 monitors etc.

if they could make bezels 1mm thick i might consider it flexible screens are the way to go i think

just read a good article on protein based technology and organice flaxible screens 5 ten years time thats what we will be using i hope

wrap around vision

wouldnt watch films on my pc monitor tho i use another 27 lcd for casual stuff and a 50 plasma for movies

nice comaprison whats with the horrible curvature tho ?

the other thing is you can always scale the text and icons up if you like to whatever % suits you

i wouldnt go back to a low res screen either now its 1440 or nothing not even a 1200 i dont think id be happy with anymore.
 
I went from a 26" Samsung 1920x1200 to a Korean 27" 2560x1440, and for me the difference is night and day. Even my family's 24" 1920x1200, everything seems really big and clunky. I don't game at the minute so I can't make a comparison in that respect but for everything else - web browsing, general office stuff, viewing photos, it's such a massive difference and I'd never go back to a lower resolution now.

It's what tends to happen when you capture monitors on a camera from that kind of distance and angle. It didn't help that I was having camera issues which couldn't be fixed before the monitor had to be used elsewhere ;). An apology was already issued in the article.

And the scaling percentage doesn't really matter. It's all relative. You can do the same on the 1440p monitor and gain even more real-estate. Screen surface notwithstanding the scaled image on the 1080p monitor doesn't ever seem to match the sharpness of the 1440p monitor. I did try to capture some such images for comparison but the comparison on the images wasn't really representative of what I was seeing.

Correct.

Game fullscreen on one 24" and have hardware monitoring (Temps, usage, fan speeds etc) IM clients, Teamspeak, Winamp etc etc on the second one.

Can game in fullscreen and still be able to see info off on a second screen. Really useful when gaming and also following a guide/copying chracter setups ingame into things like MMOs etc.

Means you do not need fugly onscreen overlays ingame and you can see who is in a Teamspeak channel/speaking also.

Could never go back to a single monitor, if I had 1 x 27" for example I would still need another secondary display.
 
can see the benefit of a small screen or second screen for saving tabbing out of games etc for vent ts3 or whatever i was thinking along the same lines by haveing a side mounted small monitor or a touch screen for comms stuff only etc. but i would like a 27 higher res as a main screen i think it would take some getting used to its like coming onto work where i have a pair of 19 inch screens going down in size is a negative for me
 
Get a nice new monitor at 2560x1440 and see how fresh the new resolution is. I've been there done that. It would be awesome for "Real Estate" and on games it would look decent but will demand more power from the graphics card, although you have a 7970? I don't think you will be able to run ULTRA settings on certain games without noticing some increased FAN noises and higer temps :D But as you're not a hardcore gamer, you may be happy with high or medium settings....

Yeah, I was thinking that a 7970 might not be up to the task of Ultra on all games at that res, but as you quite rightly stated I am not a hardcore gamer. I do like to play games a bit, but feel my monitor is letting me down a tad, more so now that I am messing with video editing and such. Even though not massively into games, I still want to run max settings so would no doubt consider a second GPU further down the line.
 
7970 manages fine for me. Unless you have to have a constant 60fps in bf3. It's still smooth and does not suffer obvious slow downs..
 
What sort of GPU's are needed to run 2560x1440 at highest settings. Would 670 SLI do the job or would 680SLI would be better ?

Biggest difference is on-screen real estate - and if you use if for work/graphics/photos, then an IPS 27" will blow you away.

However, you will need substantially more GPU power and I would recommend a 7970/680 at the least if you want the latest games. I am using a GTX 480 SLI setup to power my Hazro 27" and it is exactly the kind of muscle I need to power BF3 at a decent frame rate.

1 670/680 will suffice.
2 in SLI will be more future proof. You're best getting 1 then getting another one if/when you need it.
