How often do you re-gas your air conditioning?

Mines fine when it's running but if you turn it off or on a restart you get a bad odour for a few minutes. Worth getting it cleaned or flushed?

I always forget to run it once per week and tbh last year there was only about 5 times I actually needed it with travelling to work at 5.30 am and driving home at 7 pm.

Hehe, theres enough to get around, haven't had time to change it, should do it this weekend hopefully seeing as the weather is better. Haven't even washed it once in the time I had it, think a jet wash will get rid of the spiders :D

Just run it at all times. AC doesn't mean always cold air. Keep it on even with warm air in the Winter because:

1) It keeps the pipes in working order.
2) Stops bacteria building up in the system.
3) Conditions the air inside the cabin.
4) Removes moisture in the winter so windows don't steam up from people breathing.

Probably more things too...

I suppose eco freaks might disagree as you may lose a few MPG depending on the car but sod it to them.

Don't think I've had to have it done during owning the car, only asked for it to be done when buying one (or it has been done within the last service etc).

Did it once for the MK1 Focus when it lost it's effectiveness and did it on the ST220 recently as part of the service schedule.

Compressor gone?

Not to sure. I was trying to suss it out whilst the mrs did the shopping at Morrisons, was trying to suss it at first with just the electrics on and not the engine.

Though it is absolutely ****... It has something called a ECC Electronic climate control. It was coming out cool but not ice cold like my old ST. Might of not set up right after looking at the manual though. Will try again later when i am back in the car.

I always have mine set to about 19 degrees and just leave it on auto so its never off.

Car is 7 years old this year, it does cool the car. I had it set on "max" today when i got in it, and the car did get so cold that i had to turn the temp gauge back to 19 so it does work.

But it just doesnt seem as cold as it used to, and seems to take longer to cool the car ?

Made the mistake of keeping the AC off most of the time for the mpgz (bar hot days which are few and far between for 6+ months of the year) on my old car. One summer, no air con :(
The air con in my new car is never getting turned off :D

Did it once on the Golf as it didn't get very cold. Haven't touched it since.

On the pug I just wind down the window, no need to re-gas that. ;)

I rarely use mine as its usually too 'dry'

Its probably not as good as when I got the car 6 years ago as it's rarely used, although I remember there being a heatwave so i had roof up and it on full blast, it was like being inside a fridge.

To those wondering if it's "not as cold as it should be", get a thermometer (preferably one with some sort of probe) and place it over an air vent, and turn the air and AC on. If you've got climate control, set it to "low" or whatever, not just 16c or something. If the air coming out is less than about 7-8c then you're fine. It's normally 3-5 IIRC.

question for those that know about ac. mine wasnt used much over winter, just to demist windows etc

when it first got warm this year i used the ac to cool the car and it really didnt seem as efficient/effective as normal. did i imagine it or is that due to not having been used much?
