Hello.

So I'm building anew PC after many years of using Macs. IT'll be used for 8 hours max per week to play Battlefield 3 on, any maybe some other games. I'm hooking it up to an Apple 27" Cinema Display (Mini Display Port) and this is what I had in mind.

Cooler Master Silencio Chassis
650W Cooler Master Bronze Plus PSU
Asus P8H77-V LE Motherboard
Intel 3570K i5
Cooler Master 212 EVO CPU Cooler
8GB Corsair Vengeance Blue RAM
Radeon VTX3D 7850

Plus HDD and optical drive and bits.

I'd like to get decent 45+ FPS frame rates at 1080p, but as this system won't be my main system, cannot really spend a crazy amount. I can get this system for £690. I'm currently playing on PS3, so I'm guessing this will be a step up?

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers.

lol... hell yea, going to a pc like that, it will be a massive step up from a ps3!

overclock the i5 to around 2.5ghz which will be simples, add some more clocks on the gpu which is simples with the 7850 and your laughing at 45fps... more like 60!

Go for a Z77 motherboard.
Not a fan of the silencio.
Operating system? display? peripherals?

It's difficult to compare to PS3's. Game are (allegedly) optimised for the PS3 hardware, and the games are somewhat different (Blizzard games, Valve).

Yeah dude that PC will kick as... butt. Just keep in mind, (and although this may be obvious) if you're building a gaming rig the graphics card is the most important component. Maybe fork out a little extra and get the 7870? Just a suggestion. But nonetheless, it will be a great rig - get it.

p.s. I think the guy who replied first meant 3.5ghz, as 2.5 is not an overclock.

Sweet thanks. I'll look into the Z77 and see if I can stretch to the 7870.

I already have an Apple 27" Cinema Display, and I have a umber of keyboards and mice which will do until I find a set I like. I'll probably use my Apple gear for the time being. I already own Windows 7 Ultimate (legit) and work will buy me Windows 8 Pro so I don't need to worry about that.

What's wrong with the Silencio case?

Decent build, everything matches well and a 650W is enough for the 7850 and the i5 3570k. You should hit 45-50FPS with the 7850 with a decent overclock. On Anandtech it says 32FPS (probably get between 32-40) on completely max settings for 1920x1200 which is still good for stock for the price and you should expect to get a few more frames since yours is 1080.

For the record, any type of PC from 2008 onwards with a graphics card from that year or after (I was running BF3 when it first came out on a HD 4850, with Q6600 and 4GB DDR2 RAM @ 30FPS on high (not ultra) settings - That probably looks as good as or better than PS3) will look and probably perform better than the PS3.

I think he meant 4.5GHz as stock is 3.4GHz. .1 Wouldn't make much difference!

I think I'll go for a better mobo which supports Crossfire and then in a month or two I can add a second card.

This PC thing gets complicated real quick!
