Yesterday at work we finally got the first batch of Galaxy S3's 16GB in & i was lucky enough to have one in my hand for only a few moment though, so didn't really get to check it out properly.

There a few things i like and dislike about this handset.

The things i like first....

It has a LED to let you know when ya got text's ect at last.

The screen it totally brilliant on this phone it pin sharp, we compared it to a galaxy S2 screen and there just no contest what so ever.

Camera setup is similar to the S2 but couldn't really tell if pictures were actually better, there is deffo no shutter lag when pressing the camera button on the screen, it's basically instant.

Video was smooth in low light in both 720p & 1080p no lowlight framerate probs that plauged some of the Galaxy S2's, well not from this handset anyroads.

One good thing i did notice is that it isn't a fingerprint magnet, the back of it has some kind of 2 layer tone finish to it.

Also changing from screen to screen i didn't notice any lag it was very smooth scrolling, all in all much better than the galaxy S2 when that was first released.

also if your planning on going Tesco mobile i can tell you it both unbranded and Simfree :)

Right the things i don't like

It still feels kinda cheap if anything it has both a cheaper look and feel to it than the Galaxy S2 it feels more like the first Galaxy S.

It's big aswell, bit to big for my liking think 4.8" screen is pushing it alittle, but i've only smallish hands, it might be ok for those with larger hands.

It also to me anyways doesn't have that wow factor, that the Galaxy S2 gave when that was first released, basically take away the 4.8" 720p screen there isn't much there that makes it stand out over the Galaxy S2, it didn't seem any quicker or smoother than what the Galaxy S2 is now, but i had only a few minutes to have a play with it.

My conclusion is if i had a Galaxy S2 right now, would i sell it to buy the Galaxy S3 hmmm proberly not, to me it doesn't feel like a big step up as it was from the Galaxy S to the S2.

Im at home now i work nights, i proberly won't get to see one again until next week when it goes on sale, the one we opened is the one that be going out on display at some point next week.

Those negatives seem completely user preference instead of being global things :-P

That's a good thing!

Cheers for the write up, the LED function is very useful i got one Currently on my HTC Desire.

wait till ya see it on the Galaxy S3, you think it hasn't got one at first until you see the top lefthand side, let put it this way ya not miss it lol.

The led on my galaxy nexus is probably the best thing about the phone, and so it's nice the s3 has one

Assuming you have played around with the galaxy note. What would you recommend upgrading too, galaxy s3 or galaxy note? I currently have a iphone4 and wanna switch over to android.

I personally cant see how any one could excuse the build quality and cheap soft plastics used in the S2.

We are talking about £500 device here, think poeple are delierius if they are devaluing spending £500 on a mobeil device and not be given better BQ than what they have made to this day.

The build quality is perfectly fine on the S2 though, the perceived build qualityi s something else entirely due to how slim and light the S2 is. Mine has been dropped many times and still looks and feels like new. It has been in moisture rich environments, it has been outside in the rain and it has been in various rough surfaces and things without as much breaking a sweat.

Yes it seems cheaply built compared to its then competitor, the Sensation, but it's virtually unbreakable/undentable compared to the competition as those drop test videos showed a year or so back.

That and the fact that there are over 20 million S2s in the hands of everyday people who haven't a complaint to note about it I guess.

I have my own gripes about the S2 but they don't apply to other people and these have been covered before but as a whole, it couldn't really have been a better phone in terms of size, weight, build and popularity.

The amount of times my friend dropped his S II... and no dents/cracks on it at all!

And then another friend who drops his iPhone 4S... instant cracked screen!

That's good to know. From the look of it initially I thought it would be a massive fingerprint magnet...
