Someone was trying to convince me to go for the 3770K over the 3820, showing how it's a better CPU with this link.

Fair enough, but I'm hoping to go with the 3820 so that I can get on the LGA 2011 socket. The 3820 may not be as good as the 3770K, but there's not much between them right? I picked 2011 so that I could have 8 DIMMS of RAM (eventually upping to 64gb) and so that in a few years down the line I could possibly upgrade to the 6 core or 8 core i7 (although, if I find I don't need the upgrade, I might never move from the 3820).

Am I right with this decision do you think?

There isn't much in it, and overclocking both will send the results either way.

LGA2011 (X79) is due the IVY Bridge-E lot of processors next year, as said will give the option for 4,6 and very likely 8 cores all in a tiny 22nm fabrication process.

Main thing is, if you need the DIMMs then go X79.
