I wanted to pay my weekly rent using my credit card (one off). Have always paid it directly using FPI in HSBC online banking UK....money usually goes in within 2 hours (or so they say) but i dont see the option for the credit card section in HSBC Online banking. I could just ring up the estate agent & pay over the phone but wondered why the option wasnt available.

I found this http://www.hsbccreditcard.com/ when googling, this legit? Seems odd HSBC have a totally different URL for this when it could be intergrated into the main website online banking. Also looks to be US only.

Easiest way may well just to take the cash out on the cc, pay it into your account, then send the payment as normal.

That is unless the agent will happily take the cc over the phone but it will not look good.

Don't do that, cash on CC attracts interest from day one and at a higher rate iirc.

I fell for this once when I used a CC to buy foreign currency online. It was considered a cash advance so attracted huge interest at the end of the month.

I have my credit card setup to pay the bill in full by direct debit, but the next month I also had interest to pay on the cash advance. As the bill was one date, and the direct debit didnt come out for another week or two, they continued to charge me interest on the cash part.

Took me a few months and a lot of messing about to get it all cleared, even though I supposedly pay everything off in full. Never again!

That URL is for HSBC US, not the UK.

There isn't a method to make a payment from a credit card to a bank account, because credit cards aren't bank accounts.

Assuming the people you want to pay don't take credit cards your only option is to pay funds from your credit card into your bank account, there is a handling fee for this, a higher rate of interest and interest I think is charged even if you pay the full bill in time. However if you were to pay credit card back in a few days time the impact would be small.

phone them up best way.

Just did it that way in the end. Never realised how many US websites let you pay rent via credit card through them, but then times are hard. Many thanks people.

Just finished talking with HSBC 'Stolen Card' dept (always really helpful & polite) as they decided to lock my credit card account because of a Giganews subscription. They unlocked my credit card account but the actual card is now dead, soon as you insert into chip & pin it rejects it. Say said it must be broken but i told them it was fine until a transaction was rejected & from that point it instantly errors, even before entering the pin. Oh well a new card is on its way.

The card breaking is a coincidence, it'd go a lot into the chip and pin sequence before rejecting if it was due to authorisations.

Giganews subscriptions are higher risk than normal stuff, as it's an electronic product and the money is going overseas.

Everything seems to be sorted now, were you able to pay by phoning your landlord?
