Can anyone tell me how many PCI-e slots this card takes up, it looks like a 3 slot card but some will let you fit a a card in that 3rd slot.. Thanks

It's pretty big indeed, though if I remember correctly it's still possible to put a thin card in a PCI(-E) slot below it. I just got my a replacement motherboard back from OcUK since my first was faulty, I'll be finishing it off again today so will confirm the above for you, if nobody else does. :)

Thanks for that guys, Well i have some spare cash i can just about get a 3rd gtx but my 2 cards take up 3 lanes each, No board will fit 3 of them in so i need a 3rd card that will take up 2 1/2 lanes to put betwen :s

The cards you have now are sort of 2.5 slot cards.

Which PCI-E slots on the motherboard are you using and which slots do you plan to put 3 cards in?

Sorry to answer your Q. I was thinking put the 2.5 lane card in top slot then the 3 lane cards in the 2nd pcie and the last, this would be in my current board

I'm not sure how this would work on your current motherboard.

The user manual (page 2-16) shows that you should use the first 3 red PCI-E slots for triple SLI.

The cards won't physically fit in those slots.

I'm also not sure you're a lot better off with the EVGA X79 Classified.

The cards would only fit as shown in the image below (and I'm assuming triple SLI will work with the cards in those slots).

You need a rather large case for the XL-ATX motherboard and, by my reckoning, the case would have to have 10 expansion slots on the rear plus a fair bit of room below the bottom edge of the motherboard to accommodate the overhanging graphics card.

TBH if you have enough money for three of these and an X79 mobo and CPU, you may aswell just watercool them as that means they only take one or two slots each!

Saves yourself a lot of headache as should be a lot quieter and cooler.

Thanks guys..

I Have a xigmatek case with 10 pci-e slots, also it will let me put the psu at the top.

As for watercooling it, i cant find any blocks that fit the 4Gb cards..

You need to check the EVGA X79 Classified is supplied with an SLI connector that works with the three slots I indicated above.

It'll be difficult to use the connectors along the bottom edge of the motherboard with the third graphics card covering them.

I like the pics Surveyor :)

The EVGA board Pci-e slots are all gen3 unlike some other boards, i.e. MSI bigbang..

As for the last slot I’ve done this before with Trifire and had to block the final connectors off apart from making some small plugs to fit power and reset.

How do you setup Tri sli, i have 2 very long Sli connectors the flexible type, will they do or do you need a 3rd one?? Thanks

Just for ref, I used the hard Sli Bridge that connects to all 4 sockets and my 3D mark score is 800points higher than on a single flexible connector.

They take up 3 lanes, so its every 4th lane, im going to sell my board to a mate and order this..

Its the only x79 board i can find that will do it, will just need to move my psu to the top so the card can hang etc..

I don't think you need a new board as it looks like you have the same mobo as me(rampage iv extreme),I've considered a 3rd card and if you look on pg 2-10 of the user guide it shows you tri sli with 3 slot cards.Hopefully i've not misread and this helps:cool:
