I've never been one for 28C inland in the UK, but give me 28C inland France and I'm fine. Plus, that Indian summer we had here last Sep/Oct was lovely and that was solid 28C. From this, it transpires that it's humidity I don't like, rather than the heat. So I think the way forwards is in the title.

I looked in Argos and there are 32 of the buggers to choose from. It's probably isn't the best place, but Argos is usually the generic starting point to see what's around, then take it from there. Apart from the tank size, what criteria should I be looking at? The reviews for most of their products have both high and low ratings which confuses the research more. So just wondered what to look for.

Thanks.

P.S. Would love to get air con (just experienced it in a car now - very effective), but home air con is still priced outside of consumer range.

I have a home air-con unit (which stupidly is in my parents garage at the moment!) it wasn't expensive, and it works just great.

Ahh, I thought they started at £400, so thanks for the heads up Halk. I can live with the noise as I don't hear anything without hearing aids - I can just take them out.

Bet you hear this! However it's just rushing air so it's not going to stop you sleeping.

Trust me, I can only hear fireworks without my aids :-D I take them out while sleeping too, so it's groovy. Will the neighbours be ok with it do you think? Semi-detached here, so 1 household joined to my house, then a gap then the next 2 households joined as a semi.

They won't, I'm reasonably sure of that - unless you stick it right against the joined house.

Thanks for the explanation of what a semi-detached is! :)

I just wish I had mine here now... it'll be Sunday at the earliest before I get it.

I would definitely recommend an air con unit.

You can get the portable units (like mentioned above) for a not too ridiculous price, or you can get a wall mounted unit (has a unit mounted inside, in the room, with a second unit mounted on the exterior wall of your house, with pipes joining the two) which are more effective (& quieter), but are far more expensive (much more kit & a lot of installation) the wall mounted units usually give you more options too (cool, heat, dehumidify etc)

I have a wall mounted unit in my room at my parents, I seriously miss it whilst I'm at Uni, or on placement (as I am now).

I got an ebac amazon from Argos a while back for my flat as it was getting too humid risking mold etc. seems to be pretty decent and good at its job.
