Absolutely nothing*, which is why it's dealt with like that

* Though some tickets MUST be used in conjunction with, and are only valid when accompanied by, a seat reservation which you must also hold. This doesn't change the requirement to hold the physical ticket, though.

Proof of purchase means nothing. You can return a ticket, usually minus a £10 fee (this is what we get charged if we return pre-booked tickets on the trainline business booking).

So you could buy, return, print your email and pretend you "lost" the ticket.

You should phone the train company for the train it is booked for and see if there is any chance of a duplicate. Probably not though.
 
I have to ask, how is it Fox, that you know everything about everything?

I see your posts about numerous different topics, yet you seem to know everything about them :p
 
If you booked online via Trainline and still have the confirmation email that should suffice. Get on the train and explain to the inspector and should be ok. I've done it a couple of times but then I don't look like a scrote, izz you a scrote? ;)

It's a real gamble though because technically you can't do that, its really down to how nice the guy is as to whether it works. And he's got 4 different trains as part of his journey...

If it was one train I'd imagine a word in the ear of the train manager before you board would do the trick. But its a more complex journey than that.

I missed it was 4 different trains.
 
Option C look again for the ticket if no luck option D ring the ticket office? Failing that and the amount of effort 4 seperate ticket conductors , 4 stations etc I'd probably cough up £60 again. you live and learn!
 
A guaranteed cost of 60 quid is preferable to the risk of a ticket costing substantially more. Playing the percentages over 4 different parts of the journey is very risky.

Quite. The Anytime Single he could technically be forced to purchase is £160.
 
in 1996, me and my friend paid over £60 each for a train ticket to derby so we could visit a friend.

the ****** ticket inspector didn't come around on the out or return journey. i have never held them in high regard since.
