Hey guys,

I ve recently set up my new computer but i ve noticed that the temperatures are getting really high. I have an i-7 3770k (@4.1 Ghz/1.175v) on a giga Z77 ud-5h mobo and a Phanteks PH-TC14PE cpu cooler inside a silverstone raven 1 case. I know its summer and its getting really hot especially in Brighton where i live, plus i stay in a small room on the first floor of a student house and it gets boiling hot even with the window open. However i don't know whether the reason for these temperatures is the heat or possibly bad application of the TIM paste. The maximum temperature on the CPU at idle is about 36-37 degrees which seems to be consistent with my windforce Gtx 670 idle temperature. However when i run prime or Burn Test the temperature shoots up to 76-79 degrees. Is this normal? I did open the case and touched the heatsinks of the CPU cooler but i hardly feel any heat coming out of it. Also the TIM paste i used was the one that the came with the phanteks, is that crappy, should i get a new paste and reapply what do you think? Thanx for reading

get some ic diamond or as5 or similar. I've always avoided bundled tim except what came applied to the H80.

i disagree, the paste that is supplied with the Phanteks is really good.
those temps do seem high to me, but i am not familiar with your cpu
i would remove the cooler, remove all the old paste, and reapply with new paste.
what method did you use to apply the paste?

I applied a small quantity of paste in the middle , about 5mm diameter i think, and then mounted the cooler and let pressure do the rest...

those temps are 100% normal.

Hmm, most of the time of the stress test the temperature was well above 70 though going up as high as 79 with ease. There is a small window of a few seconds during the burn test that temps get lower which i seem to have caught on print screen. I know ivy bridge runs hot but i still find this too high to be normal... I dont really know :-P
