What's with odd wheels on cars? (Actual wheels, not tyres)

Second time I've seen this. First was on an F10 5-Series on AutoTrader. Now just saw this E60 on PH...

I'm perplexed. Is it just for viewing purposes... as in they will fit which ever style you prefer when you buy it?

It does look like it's intended as "take your pick" from the two sets. Not that anyone is going to give them 10k for a car they can't even be bothered to roll into some decent light to take pictures of.

from the advert it says about having the optional 19" alloys so im guessing that they are just showing what the car looks like on both sets

It could well be, it's certainly an odd wheel. I can't understand what possesses the sort of muppet that takes a photo of a top marque vehicle looking like that and then sticks it in an advert thinking "Yeah, that looks fine".
