Got a couple of EVGA 680 SC Signatures on the way with a couple of back plates! Can't wait! My 580 Lightnings are great but they're just a bit too big and power hungry for my liking now. Will let you know how they compare.

Very nice :D

Any chance you can do a comlarison: 580 SLI vs 680?

I'll give it a shot! The 680s arrive on Monday so I'll get some results from the 580s over the weekend. I'm limited to what I can test the cards with. I have the following:

Battlefield 3
Crysis 2
CoD: Black Ops
Flight Sim X
3DMark Vantage.

All will be done on a single Samsung S27A950D @ 1920x1080. Yes I know these cards are overkill for that res but I like silky smoothness! And hate multi monitor setups... I don't know why lol

Right! The 680s are in and my initial impression is... Wow! They are really quiet! I haven't ran any benchmarks yet on them but I have played a bit of BF3 and with everything set to Ultra it never seems to drop bellow about 94FPS and that's when there is a lot going on. At any other time well above 120.

I had my 580s with a 2 PCI-E slot gap between them. Max temps with those were anywhere between 65-72 degrees. Bare in mind they were used the Twin Frozr III cooler. The 680s don't have a slot gap between them at all. At idle the top card is around 40 degrees and the bottom around 33 degrees. At load the top hasn't gone above 75 degrees and that is with the fan at 75%. The bottom is around 65-70 degrees.

That brings me on to the noise, or lack of it! Up to about 55% it is barely noticable. I have 7 120mm, 1 140mm and 1 200mm fans in my case all running at 12v so maybe they are drowning out some of the nose from the 680s. After about 65% is when you do start to notice it but to be perfectly honest I don't mind the noise as I either game with the volume turned way up or I use a headset.

I will be running a few benchmarks on my days off tomorrow and Friday so I'll keep a record of the results and keep you all posted. I'll get a couple of picks of the cards up tonight too. Also I have back plates coming for them too! So anyways, so far very very happy!

Cheers,
Ross

I've had my SC signatures for a few weeks now replaced my Asus ref 580's. Im really pleased so far. Much smoother no FPS droop and much quieter/cooler. These really put the S27A950 some justification
