Hey guys,

A mate of mine is interested in building a pc which will play Battlefield 3 on ultra settings (or less) and I have recommended these parts. What do you guys think about it? Any suggestions? Could we go cheaper?

Any info appreciated.

Chris

Spend a bit more, for a Z77 motherboard/i5 3570K/8GB of RAM (you selected laptop RAM btw)

YOUR BASKET
1 x intel core i5-3570k 3.40ghz (ivybridge) socket lga1155 processor (77w) - retail £173.99
1 x gainward geforce gtx 560ti "448 edition" 1280mb gddr5 pci-express graphics card £167.99
1 x msi z77a-g43 intel z77 (socket 1155) ddr3 motherboard £77.38
1 x geil enhance corsa 8gb (2x4gb) ddr3 pc3-12800c9 1600mhz dual channel kit (gec38gb1600c9dc) £39.95
1 x bitfenix merc alpha gaming case - black £31.99
1 x samsung sh-s222bb/bebe 22x dvd±rw sata rewriter (black) - oem £14.99
total : £519.78 (includes shipping : £11.25).

560ti 448 vs 6950

techpower up put the 560ti 448 above the 6950, and nvidia tends to run bf3 slightly better

Hards drive SATA? Windows 64 bit?

If you don't mind less warranty (1 year) a refurbished GTX570 is a great price:

- 1yr Warranty with OcUK
- This is a refurbished fully functional product, it may have minor visual defects and is just a bare card, no cables, drivers etc.

i have a better spec than that and i dont play ultra at 1080p cos its only 30-40fps and horrid.

but thats a decent enough spec. Can you stretch to a newer gfx card some 0n sale this weekend only... 15-20% more performance

closed loop, somethin similar to my own..

Not a bad choice by any means, especially as the H100 has come down in price a fair bit.

Personally I'd go for a Phanteks/Alpenföhn K2/Noctua but it depends on the case, and which you prefer.

Reviews of the above:

The 6950 gives me ultra settings around 30-40fps depending on map, so a 7850 (which is meant to be similar in performance to the 6950) should see you fine. Might be worth getting crossfire compatible components and a PSU to cope with it in the future as an upgrade. My 6950 gets a little too warm to crossfire, but the 7850 with its reduced power usage and reduced heat would be good.

Oh and thats without overclocking, the 7850 is a mega clocker!
