Is it okay to use tap or bottled water for coolant? Hoping it wouldnt matter too much as it gets mixed with the Anti Freeze.

Also does it make a big difference mixing the anti freeze and water beforehand in a bottle or is it okay to just pour them in to the tank straight in equal measure?

Cheers

It's ok, but if it was a car I cared about then I'd use distilled water, tap water isn't pure at all.

Won't matter how you pour it in so long as the ratio is correct.

For the cost (5l is ~£3) i'd use distilled/de-ionised water. If it's a small top up then tap water is ok, but for replacement it's better to have water that isn't full of contaminants.

We only use the purist distilled deionized volcanised mineral water dribbled into statistical discharge bottles by rolling down the thighs of korean virgin girls.

Might sound hard to get but severn trent will ship it to you via a wall mounted tap.

I changed the coolant on my Micra, with extremely hard tap water and the correct amount of antifreeze.
Three years on, runs fine.

If you live in an area with wasps, then I would advise changing the coolant somewhere else or out of the summer season - The antifreeze sweet smell attracts them worse than car wax does!

THIS :D

Distilled water for your coolant system. Whatever next.

Distilled water in your BATTERY.. YES, go right ahead, perfect application.

The chlorine isn't really the issue, it's the amount of minerals you get especially in hard water areas.

Its not an issue with car coolant systems though. The minerals aren't deposited in a cars coolant system as the water never evaporates due to the boiling point being higher under pressure. On top of that you have a whole range of chemicals to stop any chemical reactions in the antifreeze.

I'm sure the inhibitors in the anti-freeze would stop it, but would using de-ionised water cause corrosion seen in PC water cooling systems using de-ionised water, interesting.
