*** Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning ***

I noticed this was down to £19.99 on Origin last night. Played the demo and may go at that price if its still there tonight when i get home

I just cant get in to it. Played about 6 hours.

It is like a cross between Fable and DA:O, but not as deep as either. In fact,it is more like DA2 than DA:O really.....it seems very old-fashioned to me.

It is very hack and slash, I found it to be quite like fable but without the comedic charm.
Still enjoyed my play through.

I got this yesterday and must say I'm enjoying it. Aiming to play faeblade and chakrams. I'm thinking of going magic and finesse tbh although I'm still not certain as to whether this will work.

By the way - when it asked me about sharing my personal information, I read the policy and my answer was a resounding no. Does this mean I miss out on anything in the game?

Not sure it matters anymore they went bust the other day, so no updates etc, not a bad game almost like a single palyer mmo to be honest

Played this for a couple of hours but it hasn't really grabbed me yet. I'll give it a bit longer to see if it does - if not then back to Skyrim.

this is a pure console slash'em'up game sadly, the UI is awful the options are awful with a typical console FOV and after trying the PC demo I defo will not be bothering with it :(

Absolutely agree found it incredibly boring was very dissapointed with it.

I decided that I'm going to finally play this since after listening to a workmate banging on about it I got it on release day. Gotta say I'm really enjoying it, only lvl 8 so not that far into it, but it's polished, good looking and the combat is enjoyable.

You can adjust the FOV???? It was one of the reasons I packed in this game!!!!!!

I always got bored when playing this after like 10 levels. Not sure why. It just felt like I wasn't making any sort of progress...

I enjoyed this game for quite some time, I just had another go at it as well. I use Widescreen Fixer I think it is to sort out the FOV.

It's nowhere near as deep as say, Morrowind or Skyrim. You'll go around doing quests but you won't really care about the story or why you're actually doing them. If anything, it all seems a bit cobbled together and incoherent story wise. The combat can be very satisfying though, it's one of the best implementations I've ever seen in an action RPG.

There's plenty of nice scenery and big monsters to fight. Big boss fights can be a challenge! I think it's worth a go as long as you're not expecting it to suck you in like Skyrim does.

When I got it I was playing Skyrim so it always played 2nd fiddle and I didn't find it that impressive. But I decided to start playing it exclusively after completing my last game(dishonoured) and I've found that it's far better than I 1st thought.

Yeah, I have been playing through it atm as well, after starting it at release but not being impressed, and I am enjoying it much more now, though it has loads of issues that stop it being great...as I put in another thread:

The latest one was when I tried playing Kingdoms of Amalur. It is a pretty fun games, but absolutely everything in the game is just nearly there...the combat is fairly deep and can be great fun, but could do with a bit more refinement, and is let down by a few targeting issues also(and rolling, whilst potentially useful, is almost useless!). There are strange design choices that hamper it such as not being able to turn dialogue subtitles off, and shields not showing until the second you use them. The quest inventory is confusing and is not helped by an awfully cluttered UI and minimap. There is a totally open world where you can go off and do whatever you want right from the start, but exploration is not fun, mainly due to an abundance of invisible walls absolutely everywhere ....All of these things and more hold the game back, and stop it short of greatness, but it is so close to getting there.
I think the three main things that hamper the game for me are not being able to turn captions off, invisible walls everywhere, and shields not appearing on backs....they are small things that really should have been sorted.

Also, Sweetfx works beautifully on this

I always found people like the guy you quoted strange. Let's compare the issues he's raised with Skyrim now, in Skyrim, the combat system is awful, it does the job but it's really uninspiring, KoA has much, much better combat. In Skyrim your off-hand weapon doesn't appear on your character, just like shields don't in KoA. Skyrim does have better exploration but I wouldn't pick that over good combat any day of the week. Skyrim is considered a perfect game these days, so how does KoA fall short for having less design issues?

I love Skyrim as well, but it goes to show that a name can take you very far, whereas a fresh I.P. can fail pretty badly even if it's better than everything in it's genre except Dark Souls.

I never mentioned Skyrim!...I don't really see where you are going with your comparison tbh, as I never said any of those points were great about Skyrim...for example, your off-hand weapon not showing when dual-wielding in it is also poor.

No I just meant that too many people are over critical of new IPs from small studios, whereas a AAA title with a huge name can come out, have just as many issues (well more tbh) and somehow become much more liked.

What I said wasn't having a go at you or anything like that. :p
