What is with this?

Carlsberg 4 to 3.8% (ok this was quite a long time ago but still counts)
Carling 4.1 to 4
Stella 5.2 to 5
Budweiser 5 to 4.8

This is just 4 examples, I'm sure there is other examples too. Not to mention the numerous new ranges of 4% beers as if they're some sort of luxury.

Why is the quantity of alcohol in my beer reducing, yet the price I pay is increasing?

It's ****ing bull**** and I'm annoyed!

Take the hint and start drinking proper beer, why anyone would chose a **** water larger over a nice pint of strong dark ale is beyond me :D

isn't it getting more expensive due to tax, yet the booze companies will want to increase profit margins so save a bit on the amount of alcomahol in beer?

If it makes your vagina hurt so bad then drink something stronger instead.

I drink beer because it tastes very nice. Sure the glow after half a dozen isn't bad either, and I'm no stranger to being drunk, but if I want to get drunk fast then beer is hardly the vehicle.

It's mainly due to the manufacturers paying less in tax if they reduce the alcoholic content.

Further to that, there was also an initiative that was signed a while back by many of the big brewers to bring down the alcoholic content in order to be more responsible, in the governments eyes. It's quids in for them though because they pay less tax and if hardcore drinkers still need to drink more to get drunk, they will have to buy more.

Ultimately though, if it annoys you that much, take your money elsewhere, there are plenty of independent bars/pubs, some with microbreweries which offer all kinds of beers at different strengths.

stella is down to 4.8 with budweiser.

Stop whinging as you still get the same amount of volume. I bet you can't tell the differnce after a few cans. :p

Can't say I've noticed, then again I tend to buy beer based on quality rather than its alcoholic content.

What does it matter? a good beer is a good beer and you probably can't tell the difference between 4% and 3.8%.

It's probably the same reason food etc is shrinking in size. The brewers are likely diluting the beer slightly more to make more profit

good job i don't drink those brands.

I was a bit annoyed with price increases recently (last few years) all cans went from £1 a can with most of them offering 6 for 5. Now heineken is a rip off at £1.19 a can and becks is the same. I can still get grolsch for £1 a can with 6 for £5.50. Not sure how long that will last.

In addition to this reduction in alcohol content, I have also noticed that the 330ml bottle, which has been pretty much a standard size for as long as I remember, has now been replaced with a 300ml bottle. Not all, but most. Check it next time you are in a supermarket. It is a joke.
