Considering a graphics card upgrade. What should i get?

Don't think my 500w PSU is of a suitably high standard. Was one I got with case. How would I go about ensuring it is good enough? And can you recommend a good PSU? For a reasonable price?

What effect will a PCI-Express 2.0 motherboard with a PCI-Express 3.0 card have?

You will need to get a new PSU. Sorry to say but that case one isn't good enough.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £339.95
1 x OCZ ZS Series 650W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £59.99
Total : £411.94 (includes shipping : £10.00).

This is my recommendation.

I took delivery of an "MSI Twin frozr III oc 7950" yesterday, paid £299.99 for it on this week only. Very quiet, great performance out of the box, overclocks like a demon, managed 1200 core, 6000 memory @ 1.25v and hit temps of 70c (it was very warm where the pc is though) and I reckon theres a bit more to come too.
The GTX 670 is a faster card, but costs a bit more too but I've heard about this dynamic/ boosting of clock speeds that it does automatically which put me off getting one, I prefer to have complete control as far as possible as to what me card is doing. Plus most of the 670 cards only come with 2gb of Vram, whereas the 7950 cards come with 3gb so if you're going to be running with high AA or multi screens in future thats gonna be useful.
Just noticed the VTX 7950 is up for grabs at £287.99 which is a nice price but my choice would be the MSI twin frozr :)

Also the cheaper 7950 would allow for a bit of cash to be put aside for a decent psu too.

rusty your gtx 680 running at 1275...how hot is it running?

About 65c. Though it's getting close to 70c now it's warm.

Custom fan profile which means it does get loud (around 65% fan speed). But I have Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro's on while the fan is this loud so I don't hear a thing :)

You WILL be bottle-necked with 79**/gtx 6**.

Get a 7850, nice and cool, cheap, oc's well and wont be bottle-necked.

Genuinely cant believe people suggest the 670 out performs an OC'd 7970.

Beyond belief that these people thing that they are giving out useful information.

Im glad the OP got the help he needed but still had to sift through thefanboy posts.

Claiming that the 7970 only matches the 680 ''AT MOST'' is beyond belief. Fanboy remark of the day for sure, from a ''neutral''.

Your obsession with calling people out all the time for being fanboy's is becoming extremely tedious. It's a case of pot calling the kettle black if I ever saw it.

Please stop polluting threads with that nonsense and just accept that some people don't see it the same way you do.
