Heavier (Slower and more thirsty), less refined, more noisy, more prone to rattles.

Most people wouldnt care but you did ask 'why not' :)

Hehe.. ok but have you ever tried changing a nappy on a wriggly toddler on the boot floor of a saloon? It's doable but it'd be much easier in an estate :p

I've found the boots in the A4 / 3 series to be not that big personally. I'd go up a model if its space you're after.

Agree.. however baby stuff doesn't need that much space. The boot in my E90 saloon is fine space-wise. Shape-wise it's a bit of a pain though!

Yer, I've been looking for a 9stone dog and baby stuff kind of space so looking at V70's & A6's for uber space :p

I honestly dont understand why you feel the need to have to buy another car when your child is not even born? Are you expecting twins or something? If you like your Mini, you should keep it. All the talk of buying a big A4 etc right now is a little bit nonsensical and you should be looking at budgeting for your new family because a new car for you right at this moment should not be high on your list of priorities - give it couple of years and then see where you are. BTW, I ferried my lad about for five years in a three door Golf GTI with no problems. :)

I sold my much loved A3 3 door for a VW Tiguan when we went from 1 under 1 to 2 under 2 years old. Even the Tiguan wasn't big enough. We now have a VW Touran. Sure we don't need 7 seats but that extra boot space is the key. You have to carry so much around all the time when you have young ones.

The thing is with the Mini is the boot space is no way going to fit a pushchair in it. My brothers wife went from a Saab 93 to a Mini. My brother has 0 room in the front as his 1 1/2 year old son sits behind him in his chair. Seeing him cramped up like that is stupid. If they ever had an accident I can see his legs being crushed by his own weight.

But the boot in a Golf is about four times that of a Mini!

While you can struggle on with smaller cars why not make life easy for yourself and get something more suited if you have the money to do so?

Put £8k in the bank for when your kid wants to go to University or buy their first house, and spend the other £8k on this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classifi...1501?logcode=p

That is a cracking motor for the money  No idea what the load space is like in a Jetta though.

Have you ever seen a MINI? He has no chance in hell of getting a pushchair in one, let alone the other **** that comes along with a baby.

I'm not sure how old you / your son is, but have you tried getting a modern rear-facing car seat in and out of a 3-door car recently? I struggle with it on the few occasions we go out in the Integra, and my wife couldn't do it at all.

The A4 B8 was a tad bigger than its predecessor, the avant is bigger than the C class and 3 series for loading space.

Its better to have a Hatch or Estate over a Saloon, as loading **** in and out of the car is easier, buggies and **** are just so big and awrkward nowadays.

Expecting women are generally crazy and they are the ones that dictate how much **** a baby will need, its madness i tell thee!

Forget he badge and buy a octavia vrs estate

The vrs badging Makes it a cool car esp in a bright cOlour

Buy at 2 yr old and ***** the change On a relaxing Pre end of your life getaway before the baby comes along

We've just discovered we are having our 2nd child (our first will be 11 this year :) ) and we have a B7 A4. Going to fill it quite easily I reckon.

We had an E30 estate with our first and by todays standards it really wasn't that big and we could brim the thing just for a day out :)
