All ready to put final touches to my new rig, and about to go for the i5-3570K. I want a modest OC, say 4.2GHz, so not too concerned by heat issues.

Now, just realised that for £30 more, I could have a new i7-2600K instead.

I use my PC mainly for general productivity, gaming, and photo editing. A touch of video work here and there too, but nothing major.

So - £30. Worth it? Needs to last 2-3 years. Never had an i7 before, and I like the sound of it :D

if you dont need the hyperthreading stick with the 3570k

Well I guess this is it... I don't know if I do need HT, hence post.

I appreciate it helps with video encoding etc, but what about for Photoshop work? Also realise it makes no difference to gaming.

tbh you wont notice much difference in video encoding or photoshop unless you doing it 24/7 heavy work save the £30 get the i5 and spend it on a cooler
