Virgin Media Discussion Thread

I've decided that the yellow in TBB graph is worthless as it can make you connection look poor when compared to FTTC even tho actual ping is still low over the corse of a 24hr period.

It's only worthless if you don't know how to interpret the data. For most of us it is a very useful tool.

 Is that until the re-segmentation is done?

I assume so, I don't actually recall why they credited my account up until next month but it does coincide with my "doublespeed" upgrade due date, also it was a second complaint and backed up by a thread on the vm community forum. They stuck £175 credit on my account :)

Thing is, I won't know if the upgrade has actually fixed the problem until October when the students come back, if it doesn't then I will complain for the 3rd time and demand more credit, either that or I'll cancel I think.

I'm doing ok out of it as it means I have a 50mbit connection which is usable (for browsing) and a separate ADSL connection which I use for gaming as I set up a plusnet connection, all for the princely sum of £10 a month :D lol.

I am more than happy to pay the full amount for the VM connection if it was usable for everything.

also some people don't leave it running after a day or two so posting a live graph would leave a empty post when the person stops it.

A random snapshot doesn't give us an idea of real world performance. The snap shot could have been taken months ago. What do you have to hide? ;)

Also, there's no harm in running it 24/7.

it's called trust :D

not everybody leaves their modern/router/superhub on over night

also people could post a live graph of someone elses connection and saying it's theirs.

Anybody tryed to get on battlelog (bf3) i cant this morning for some reason i just hope virgin are not up to somit.

Quick question what routers are people using with this? atm I'm on (30MB soon to be 60MB) but the wireless features on the superhub are really poor; the range isn't good at all.

A router with a good range (to cover the house) is what i'm after, i can place the superhub on "modem mode" so that's not a problem.

Just been upgraded to 100Mbps... Speedtest only showing 70Mbps max. Using the black VGMN300(?) and DIR-615.

Worth requesting the superhub?

*Edit* Found a server that works;

There isn't a 100mb thread, so might as well post in here, had it installed Friday, been very fluctuant over that time, this was done tonight at 22:40

This is using only the SuperHub, I did have an Apple Airport Extreme and used the Superhub in modem mode for most of Friday but speeds were very strange during that time. Today I used only the Superhub and have cat6 cable to my computer but again the ping is way off and I've only been getting that speed since around 4pm tonight (all of Friday, and during Saturday daytime I had anything from 30-50, with similar 46-49 ping.)

Is it normal or worth a phone call to support?

Today hasn't had any slow downs either apparently (I wasn't in but the other half has been)... so maybe these hardware upgrades they're doing with the rollout are improving the oversubscribed areas a bit :)

I thought 100mb had 10mb upload not 5mb ?

We were upgraded to 100mb over Easter before I went back to uni. Came back today to find we are only getting 60/8 down up. Turns out the internet went funny and my step dad did something funny with the aid of the Virgin phone support.
