What 2003-2006 games would you recommend?

Total wars Rome with the realism mode kiss goodbye to 500 plus hours of your life :D

Should run ok, as long as the laptop as a decent cpu the game also scales extremely well.

Command & Conquer Generals: Zero hour
Rise of Nations
Rome Total War
Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds
Age of Empires 3

Freelancer

Counter Strike
Half Life
Half Life 2
Team Fortress
Team Fortress 2
Halo

Neverwinter Nights

Thats just a few. Some great games released before 06.

Thanks for the good recommendations all.

Of the ones mentioned I have FarCry 1, but how do you get it running on x64 Win 7?

I also found Halo 1 in my cupboard, will that work as well?

Vampire Bloodlines is a great call, I completely forgot about it because 2004 was a great year for gaming and I'd already thought of 4 games from that year!

Far Cry it should just work on Win7 x64 if you've patched it, there is also a dedicated 64bit version and 64bit content available (AMD sponsored but there are guides on how to get it working on Intel cpus).

As for Halo definitely don't bother IMO, for a 2003 game the performance is absolutely horrendous (I played it on a 2.7ghz / 1GB / 9800pro) and it is a very repetitive game with a lot of boring corridors and very limited weaponry.

Still the best Halo :) IMO anyway. I wouldn't bother with any other Halo.

If you got it from GOG.com just install and play.

Also, after doing a quick search I have found that there is a 64bit patch for Far Cry that apparently unlocks some nice features, later copies are bundled with it, otherwise there is a download you can get.

Just make sure it is fully patched to the latest version as well.
