GTX480 or GTX560ti 448, which one would you take and why?

In acme's chair.
The GTX480 is a-lot more powerful than the 448, but it runs incredibly hot and incredibly loud and sucks a-lot of power.

The GTX560ti 448 is a-lot less powerful than the GTX480, but has better overclocking ability, runs cooler and quieter, and draws less power.

Which one would you take? The noisy outdated powerhouse? or the more up to date smooth running steed?

Personally i would go for the GTX480 cos of the power, but i would be happier inside if i knew that there wasnt a 90*C chunk of metal in the middle of my rig :p
(yeah i changed my mind :p )

I would go with the 480 purely because my case is huge with good cooling and the 480 will surpass a 560 easily.

hmm... we have similar specs, except you have an epic G-Card :p

What settings did you use to get your 2500K to 4.6? and what temps do you get? (sorry for going off topic briefly, i'll try and make this tangent a short one :D )

I got lucky with my 2500K and it clocks from the auto OC in the bios to 4.6. I run it at 4.4 though as it is a lot cooler this way and I have never seen anything that needs that extra 200mhz in games. I only put it to 4.6 when benching.

my PC wouldent boot with the 4.6 or 4.4 auto overclock :/

Maybe the volts it gives on the auto OC are a little high for your chip. Try a manual OC with lower volts. Failing that try giving a little more volts (max 1.4v IMO). Keep an eye on your temps but with your cooler, that should be fine.

Edit:

You can set the auto OC and just adjust the volts manually. Easy way to go.

having owned both 480 and now 7850, the 7850 hands down, plays games just aswell as the 480 did with the added bonus of not needing a overpowered psu plus you can't even hear it idling and gaming which is something you can't say about the 480

maybe it was just those gigabyte 480soc, but i would never buy another 480 ever again. now i know a card doesnt have to be noisy and power hungry to play games decently i would never go back.

out of the two in OP id probably go with the 560ti 448, it will clock much higher than the 480, im sure some of the msi ones hit 1ghz??

Think I would take the 480, just for nostalgia reasons. Its probably the last card like it, like an old gas guzzler being replaced by greener models. A card made with no compromises, its like the mclaren f1 of graphics cards :)

Hmm I would have thought the GTX 480 was more powerful, but the Anandtech benchies put the two cards close together.

560(448) vs 480

It seems in games that 480 is faster is by an insignificant margin, but where the 560 is faster it is quite a bit faster...

Add in its cooler, quiter and less power consumption, it looks like the 560 is the better card.

Thats if the Anadtech benchies are correct.

Does sound a little strange that a 480 is bested by a 560ti(448)?

480. More Power, More memory. Simples.;)

Don't worry about extra power useage its pennies!

Plus most of the time in this country heating your house is a good thing!:p

The OP did ask between those 2 cards. Maybe he uses 3Dvision or even just prefers NVIDIA.

The 7850 is a cracking card from what I have seen though
