Hi all,

Recently had a disappointing consumer experience with another company (not overclockers or any associates I must add!)

Anyway by the by it's all ended with me getting a refund and the company have offered ( to try and restore my faith in them again ) to offer me a product at cost price and then they will pass the rest of the bill onto the manufacturer (who they say are the one's at fault anyway)...

So my question is what exactly am I looking at roughly?

If I decided I wanted one of the company's products which on their website cost £300 for instance, what would the likely cost price be that I would have to pay?

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, there's got to be some profitability being made and mark ups abound.

I think the only reason they're offering this is because i've left a horrendous 1 star review on trust pilot for them and now the managing director of both companies have even got involved :D

depends massively on the type of product, if it's computer stuff it could be as high as 270, if its jewellery or clothes it could be under 100

Ah right then it might be nearer the 300 mark.. it's DJ Gear.

As Rotty says it will depend almost entirely on the product, some will have a very high mark-up/margin and others will have barely anything. The only way to know for sure is to ask them what they are offering it for and then you might be able to check the average mark-up for the industry to see whether they're being entirely on the level with it.

Sound advice. Cheers.

By cost price I assume they mean cost price to the retailer. The retailer I am guessing is being refunded their margin by the manufacturer as a sign of goodwill to their customer.

My guess would be your probably in the region of 20% discount, a lot of internet based retailers hold limited stocks on specialist gear, they will order from manufcturer to meet customer orders. Probably even getting it shipped direct from manufacturer to end customer.
This way they do not hold stocks with risk of redundancy and associated costs of holding so they only need to make a margin for acting as not a lot more than a referrer.

Knowing a bit about this and that most DJ equipment manufacturers are not UK based it follows the manufacturer > UK distributor > retailer > customer route.

If the figure you quoted in your original post £300 is what you are looking to pay for a moving head I would save your money as at that price you are not going to get decent quality. :)

I understand the gap between the more expensive moving heads and the cheaper ones though.

It's not for club use but home use so I don't need something like a 250W discharge lamp or anything.

I have serveral imove 5s units they are old stock now but you can still get then in a few places for around £300 at that price they are the best some of the others I have seen for the same money I wouldn't give £100 for as they wont last. Apart from changing the odd lamp the units have been faultless over the past few years. Maybe worth considering.
