The agreement from people I've talked to is approaching 50% if you want a nice place in Zone 1, a bit less in Zone 2.

28%, used to be around 50% though. plus transport it goes up to about 46% :/

Zone 2, south west though.

What a stupid comment, he just answered a question. What's the problem with that?
Because it was asked as a percentage. Putting figures in just turns it into a bragging contest and was entirely unnecessary.

I share a 2 bed flat with my girlfriend (zone 3), my half of the rent is about 40% of my pay. I work with a guy who lives up the road from me. His mortgage on his 4 bed house is half my rent. Love renting

Even if he just posted the percentage and the zone you would still know that it's a fairly high income as you are talking about that price for anywhere in zone one.

A little bit of this tbh :p.

I ask because I originally budgeted for around 30-35% and a lot of savings, but if I push that up to 40-45% I can get much, much nicer places in much, much nicer locations.

You're right it's no biggie, but smiled at it all the same :).

£1500 which is about 20%. I'm living in Zone 1

Baller status achieved.

Mortgage is 20% of take home pay. I've seen one-bedroom flats in my block renting out for £1100 a month... in zone 3! Not even a particularly nice part of zone 3.

60.1% moving down this month

Take 16k, spend about 9k on rent

Zone 1, can cycle to work in 20 mins

Stating figures for 20% and Zone 1 is required, because if he was earning £2k a month he'd be living in an utter ****-hole, and it's not realistic to expect, on an average wage, to pay just 20% of your net income on rent.

And it's not really bragging either, as that works out to about £85 an hour, which is not unreasonable for a skilled/experienced IT contractor.

Holy ****

I can understand though if it's a really nice place. Might think about paying that percentage to live in the City near the river.
