So, I've been setting up my water cooling all day (literally) & I've nearly finished. One last bit of tubing to connect & then Just got to fill it up etc etc. Thing is though, I can't get the reservoir open to fill it up. Its bloody tight! ripping the skin off my hands tight.

Anyone else had any problems with these or got a tip on opening it?

This is the res I've got. I can remove the bottom of it but the top is properly stuck on...

I feel like a little kid...

Give the res some grip and twist it, the plexi center is quite thick so you can hold it quite tightly.

Just don't overdo it and damage it :)

Are you twisting it anti-clockwise?

Obvious but who knows :p

I know! I'm 6' 5" & nearly 19 stone. I feel like a right clown.

The top has the tube in it that I'll need for filling the loop properly. It also only has one hole on the top & its in the wrong position for feeding the pump.

The only other ting I can think of is using a funnel to fill the loop through the top & being very careful....

Yeah I'm going anti clockwise. you can actually see which way the thread goes too so I know I'm going the right way. I've tried all sorts. Wrapped a rubber oven glove round both parts for extra grip amongst other things. Its like its glued on. I've actually torn the skin off my hands trying to open it...

You can unscrew the tube and put it in the bottom :)

This is one of those situations where I wish I could have a go to see if it really is that hard to open :D

I suppose if it really is a bother then you'd have to RMA it incase too much force breaks it.

one thing to try and get grip on acrylic is to put a couple of elastic bands around the res and the top and grip those and twist

thats what i do when i cant get something to undo...

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm gonna go to bed & think on it & try in the morning with a fresh mind. I've been at this too long...

Had a similar problem with something which refuse to unscrewed.

Solved it by using mum's Baby Boa Constrictor Strap Wrench which cost a couple of pounds from Asda or Range, she uses them for stubbon jars, etc.

It grips anything from 6mm to 100mm in diameter, regardless of shape, I now keep a pair of them in my pc tool box for the next time.

EDIT: you can also get Baby Boa Constrictor Soft Grip Strap Wrench for lighter jobs.

I had the exact same problem 2days ago. I couldn't get the little top off. The bottom was tight but not like the top. Had the inlaws and family come to visit.....a quick pass around to show the mens strength and we had a winner....a 56 yearold, 5 foot father inlaw :)

Thanks for all your help guys.

Popped to B & Q this morning & picked up a strap wrench (similar to the one posted by nightglow) & got it open. Bloody tough that little bugger was!

All set up & working fine now :-)

If you think that is tight you should try remove the bottom of a Zalman Reserator 1+, I needed to use a vice, two 2' strips of flat bar and a 24" stilson to remove it :p
