I'll be honest - I've managed to fall behind a little bit on what is what in the chipset world.
Can anyone enlighten me as to which chipset I should be looking at if I want to build something around Ivy Bridge?
We are building a test machine at work to see if the new generation makes a difference for the compiling work our engineers do - however I'm lost :)

Thanks.

get a Z77 motherboard because if you use a z68 the pcie slots will only run in 2.0 mode instead of 3.0

edit or is it only when you put a sandy bridge [art in a z68 motherboard that happens cant remember

either way get a z77 motherboard anyway

Z77 is the only way to go if purchasing new for Ivy and they clock sandy better too especially with full Dimm population.

You could run it on Z68 sure, but as above you will need a Z77 mobo if you want to unlock all the features of the IBs.
