The Queen's Diamond Jubilee

Its personally a catch 22 with me, i find that current monarchy is rather tame and pointless, only there for stamping in and out parliaments for little reason other than the status quo.

Id much rather have them back in power, although that of course brings with it the obvious authoritarian principle (a shame), though frankly i am quite bored of this circle jerk and pathetic excuse of a democracy, which is ruined by the vast horde of morons that inhabit this planet, be they in power or powerless.

I may not entirely enjoy royalty, since it also brings these "celeb stalking" disgusting folk with them, but at least Prince Philip makes it worthwhile.

I'm anti-monarchy, but pro-Queen. She's lived through an amazing chunk of modern history, is well respected by those who have dealings with her, does a job I'd loathe, and rarely puts a foot wrong. A completely honest autobiography would be fascinating, but that -- sadly -- will never happen.

When QE2 shuffles off I'd like to see Charles refuse and hand it straight on to William. Then we'd slip fairly effortlessly into a European style "monarchy-lite" that maintains traditions (which are important) but becomes a much more transparent wing of the National Trust.

I have to say I found that really boring to watch, just a load of barges running up the Thames with people waving and cheering that is not how I would celebrated the occasion. They should have got HMS Victory up from Portsmouth to sail up the Thames blaring out Rule Britannia.

I think the diamond jubilee thing has gone too far, if it was totally isolated to purely this weekend, that would be ok, but it's become another christmas, you can't enter a shop or walk down the street without it being in your face.

It does happen less often than Christmas, and do remember that the total amount spent by people on it won't be anything like the burden Christmas is... and finally it's culturally acceptable to not pay attention to the Jubilee, while ignoring Christmas is a bit more unusual.

My advice is just to enjoy it, and set aside any reservations about the monarchy during the Jubilee.

Which is why I stayed indoors today watching back to back LOTR. It's awesome. I love the Ents.

Wonder what's planned for Lizzie tomorrow. Anyone know?
