My issue is I need sound over HDMI for my htpc. I have a 8800gts that does not support sound out from the DVI, so what is the best/cheapest way of keeping HD quality and getting the sound to the TV?

Ideas are a new graphics card (recommendations accepted) or using some kind of fancy cable/adapter to get the 3.5mm jack sound or the s/pdif sound into the video signal (which I cannot fond for less than £80).

Thanks in advance

The card RJC suggested is probably going to be the cheapest & simplest option TBH. I have that card (an XFX one) & it does the trick for my HTPC.

depends on the tv, possible to get the video to the tv via vga and then sound from 3.5mm sound card to connection in the back of the tv.

but thats if it has the connections.

I thought about that and it's not an option. Nice idea, but the tech lets it down :(

What TV are you using?

Thought all TVs had audio in via 2 x RCA phono these days.

If it has, then this should do the job "3.5mm Jack to 2 x RCA Phono Audio Cable".

But if it was me, I would get the card suggested by RJC, sound via HDMI and no fan noise.

means as the CPU is an old e6750 I'll stick with the 5000 series, plus ATM the noisiest thing in the case is the GPU, and that's still quiet...

Thanks guys
