H80 Fan Replacement

Hey guys. I'm sure you can work out what the question is from the title
I've currently got the standard 120mm Corsair fans (CFM 45, 25 DBa) the H80 came with installed and want to replace them with either a) 2 x 1850 rpm Gentle Typhoons (58 CFM, 28 DBa, £19.99), b) 2 x CM Sickleflow (69.69 CFM, 19 DBa, £6.98) or c) another fan you'd HIGHLY recommend.

From what I've read the CMSFs are 1/3 the price of the Scythes, over 15% higher CFM and considerably quieter (and comes with a funky LED). Is there something I am really missing big time here or is the choice as obvious as it looks? The numbers do seem to speak for themselves, and frankly anything would be better than the Corsairs that the H80 came with.

Gt1850's are amongst the best, had a pair of viper's when I used an h80 and got pretty good results for both temps and noise. Might be worth checking out the new corsair sP120 fans too as they boast quite high static pressure of 3.1mm.

Its not just about CFM its more about the Static Pressure. The higher the pressure the more air it can push through tightly packed fins of a heatsink/radiator. Which is why the Gentle Typhoons are held in high regard because of their high static pressure.

The 1850 GT produce up to 3.56mmH2O and the Sickleflows produce 2.94 mmH2O, I think people are passing over the Sickleflows purely because of the relatively low end Coolermaster brand name, the GT are nice but are nowhere near worth the price unless money is no object and you want the best cooling without consideration of noise.

I ended up ordering sickleflows over the gentle typoons, I cant justify double the cost. Waiting for my bits to arrive.

I use the Scythe Jyuni's. Half the price of the GT's and they seem to perform similarly when used throttled by a fan controller.

Dead noisy on full belt though. I guess anything that blows a tornado like them will be noisy though. After all, moving air does make a lot of noise when it moves fast...

Just to add to that, I use GT's and Jyuni's, so yes I can compare them.

I've looked around and your figures are spot on. However, when I looked on the Corsair site about the stock fans it claimed they produced 1.6 - 7.7mm/H20 I find that hard to believe (1.6 sounds fair, 7.7 a bit off).

Is that to say that neither of these fans can produce the same level of static air pressure as the stock fans? Or is the 1.6 the more relevant part on those figures? If so I'm very happy with the cooling these fans give me and if either fan would upgrade it I'd rather the noise were reduced as the rest of the fans also operate at only 19 DBa.

To get anywhere near the stated pressure from the stock fans you're going to go deaf in the process.

So am I likely to see any difference in cooling with either fan? Like I said, if either will be as good/better then I'd rather go for the quieter CMs
