new 24 inch 120hz monitor

Best bet is to stick with a normal 60HZ monitor, Your eye's can barely perceive 30FPS, and if you don't have one of the latest 6 series Nvidia or 7 series ATI cards you wont get anywhere close to 60 FPS in most modern games so you wont need 120HZ

Food for thought.

Save some money and get something else as well as a monitor. £300 on a monitor is ridiculous.

Erm going from 60hz to 120hz is huge, put a 60hz monitor next to a 120hz and you would see especially in racing/fps games.

60hz is absolutely horrible for me, i can set monitor to it and i will hate it instantly now.Wish there was 2560x1440 120hz panels i would pay £800 or so for one easy.

Why is £300 on a monitor ridiculous? may aswell have a good display that you will probably use for a long time with a good pc no? can understand if you were buying a low end/mid ranged pc then a standard 1080p monitor would be fine.

Cost my good friend, Its not such a huge difference personally, I'd rather stick a nice triple display setup on rather than just the one,

All down to personal preference really :)

You ever used a 120hz monitor? big difference barely notice over 30fps, sorry but thats complete rubbish i get between 60-80fps on bf3 on high settings if it drops low on ultra to 40fps theres a massive difference.

Again, You might want to do a google search, Its scientifically proven that your Eye's can only see a certain amount of frames at any one time, your brain cannot proccess that many frames that quickly unfortunately dude.

The monitor can Display up to 60FPS at 60HZ and up to 120FPS on a 120HZ monitor.

So in your case Borely, I would say a 120HZ is borderline for you. If you play constantly on ultra at 40FPS then there is no point because the 120HZ wont help you, However if you prefer to play on high then 120HZ might be better.

No need to get snappy ;)

EDIT: Yes I have used 60HZ, 120HZ, 400HZ and on my 42" Panasonic downstairs 600HZ. :)

This thread of GraveYard's is interesting, Most people on here recommend picking an IPS monitor (well the people who know what they are talking about)

Most say 120HZ TN panels are washed out,
60HZ IPS is the way forward.

So you saying i do not know what i am talking about since i chose a 120hz TN panel? i had a HP LP2475w before this infact still have it but not setup at the moment and this is _a lot_ better for gaming, sure the colours/viewing angles are better on the HP however the colours aren't much better but viewing angles are though i sit infront ahead of screen anyway.(HP LP2475w was one of the best IPS panels and still is.)

Only thing is 120hz needs good gpu power to be truely beneficial.

Didn't even suggest that Sycho, Just that a lot of them know what they are talking about, When I don't :)

Doesn't make the world of difference to me, as long as its 1080p, clear and big then I don't care :)

You better tell all manufacturers that make 120hz its pointless! Also i said when it drops to 40fps not that was max my point is even when it drops frames that are more than 30fps you notice the difference so your arguement is invalid.

Ok guys, I think he's gone back on his statement, we all know that 60fps is worlds apart from 30fps in visual smoothness perception, and again when jumping to 120hz. Lets bury this one.

As for the monitor. Don't bother with cheap, Why skimp on the part of your computer you use the most?. The display is one thing you'll spend more time using than ANY other part, so make sure its what you want. IMO spending anything less than £300 is madness.

I'd really love a 16:10 120hz IPS panel, but sadly that'll never happen. It's either a true IPS panel like a 2410, or a good quality 120hz like the BenQ for me. Personally, the 16:10 aspect ratio and superior colours/viewing angles are more important to me right now, otherwise i'd be on the 120hz bandwagon too.

-.- Did I say that? No.

All I was suggesting is not pushing 120HZ to the OP when his budget is £200.
Logically if he is spending £200 on a monitor its unlikely he has a 690 under the hood. So it would make sense to pick a 60HZ monitor if he has say a 6850 like me or something similar in the Nvidia range.

Also I didn't say that was your max FPS, you stated it was between 60 and 80 FPS?

It would then be a perfectly good option for you to pick 120HZ if you are getting these frames, I personally would buy a cheaper monitor and spend the money elsewhere on what I believe is more important (sound).

Also to correct my other statement Google seems to think your eyes/brain can only process about 18 fps.

And to Turbo_Tom, I never suggested 60fps wasn't worlds apart from 30fps at all anywhere in the thread. Im not stupid.

However for the OP depending on his graphics card which hopefully he will tell us? It seems unlikely that he will need a 120HZ monitor. All dependant on that.

IMO spending £300 is bonkers on just a monitor!, 300 smackers could get you a whole HTPC or a new small rig, a new phone, and so much more, seems a lot to waste when you can get something perfectly adequate for the half the price or even two.

Madness, utter madness.

The Samsungs are brilliant monitors, and at a good price.
