I would like to run 3 matching Acer 24 inch monitors off one graphics card, in one PC using Windows XP Pro. I have zero interest in gaming, the PC will be for basic display of slow changing and updating sites off the net, or for programming vehicle ecus where I like several big windows open in the mapping software simultaneously. Is there a relatively cheap card that will achieve this, or could I use two dual port cards? Screen resolution will be a maximum of 1920 x 1200 Thanks.

I will probably buy a board, so can be pretty flexible. I want to spend as little as needed to get a fairly modern system that will only run XP, with which i am happy and familiar, plus I have apps that only run on 32 bit version, so lots of memory will be wasted. my current PC works fine, but seeing as it's 12 years old and on 24 hours a day, seven days a week, all year around, it's probably earned its keep by now :) Thanks for the suggestion, if you be more specific based on the above I would really appreciate it, cheers.

The cheapest option is to pick two dual port cards. You can honestly pick the cheapest cards available. To avoid compatibility, I'd pick both AMD or both NVidia, but you can mix both if using Windows 7.

Running multiple monitors from multiple graphic cards is a technology that has been available on the PC pretty much from the beginning. Any entry-level modern card will have no trouble running two monitors at 1080/1200p resolution, if you are not using it for gaming.

Two of these would do the trick for a total of about £50:

If you look around, you can find older cards for cheaper, if money is tight.

Cleeco brings up a good point. With a mboard with integrated graphics, it will feed one monitor, so you only need 1 graphic card for the other 2.
