Hi,
I'm looking for some speakers to go with my Xonar DG which will be used for music and games.

I've currently got some JBL creature iii's and they aren't doing a very good job. The quality of them hasn't ever been amazing and one of them stopped working.

Been browsing about and thought the Harmen Kardon Soundsticks III and the Acoustic Energy Aego M looked ideal.

Are these a good choice? Would you recommend something else?

Not looking for headphones.

I'm always inclined to recommend seperates, rather than the packages you've mentioned before.

Much better quality for your money.

To get a little system that I would recommend - I'd personally push the budget up to ~£200

I'm currently running the following:
Amplifier - http://www.richersounds.com/product.../cambridge-audio/topaz-am5/camb-topaz-am5-blk
Speakers - http://www.richersounds.com/product/bookshelf-speakers/cambridge-audio/s30/camb-s30

(I'm actually upgrading this to a valve amp and floorstanders come wednesday when my new amp arrives, but this system has been working well for me for a couple of years)

You can get the same kind of quality, just with fewer inputs and adjustments from this amp:
http://www.richersounds.com/product.../cambridge-audio/topaz-am1/camb-topaz-am1-blk

Bringing the price down to just a shade under £210

There are many other decent combinations as well, which can bring the cost down, for example - these speakers:

This little package is within your mentioned budget, but I personally would prefer an alternate pair of speakers:
http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/hifi-separate-systems/patwh254

Another reasonable package:
http://www.richersounds.com/package/system-savers/hifi-separate-systems/pah01215

(but I personally prefer the S30 speakers for £10 more - that's personal preference though - it's worth trying to demo these combinations if you have a shop near you).

To the mods... I hope referencing these two retailers is ok as I don't believe they're competitors, especially in this market - if they are, please accept my apologies and delete the links :)

Thank you, how does only 2 speakers compare to having a sub?

Also, if you're upgrading, does that mean you're selling them off cheap? ;)

The quality of the sound will be much better :)

The main driver in the speakers I've linked to... is roughly the same size as the driver in the subwoofer of the speakers you've linked to.

Bass reproduction should be roughly equal.

Can't stress how much better value for money the seperates are though - go to a shop and have a listen - best way is to judge for yourself :)

Amazing, are you interested in selling your old ones?
