Hi guys,

Just a really quick 'straw poll' really - in your opinion, what would say is a good length of a garden for a 3 bedroom family home for future young children etc.

We've been going through the purchase of a nice house for 6 weeks, and it has a lovely 135 foot garden, which we though was a bit too long but would be manageable. Now someone has come back offering more.... The vendors are being very greedy and going for that one now, even though we are probably only a week or 2 from Exchange :(

We starting out search again but most other properties in the area we are looking at have 70 - 80 foot gardens, considerably less, especially when considering future rear extensions etc.

Thanks,

Mal :)

I would say the average size for a gerden would be around 25 foot if that.

70-80 foot is plenty for a garden but I think you already know this ;)

depends what you are using it for - we've started looking at houses around here and some of the gardens are massive which isn't a good thing as it means work to upkeep it! Idealy room for a BBQ and a table and youre good

Thanks for those giving helpful answers....

Ideally we'd have a table and chairs, BBQ, garden shed etc, plus space for play stuff for kids etc etc.

blatent ''i'm loaded'' question
Not necessarily  I've recently looked around a few houses with 70ft gardens in the 150-180k range. That's average house price, give or take.

In answer, 70ft is plenty for what you've got in mind, I would have thought. Depends on width as well, but that's quite a lot larger than a lot of houses would have.

Ummmm no it's not, or I wouldn't be asking the question as we'd just up our offer..

Grrr, OcUK these days...

Anyway, thanks for the helpful replies :)

135 feet for social housing house, sounds good to me, maybe a little small

make sure you get your application for housing benifit in early, as delays can cause you to owe a lot of money, at least £70 or £80 in arrears

Depends where you live to be honest.
If you live an area with no grass land then you of course want as big as you can get. Though if you live in the countryside it doesn't particularly matter as you can have loads of fields were you can pretty much do what you like within reason.

Ours is 115ft and have partitioned it up so it is very manageable with a decked area for BBQs, a length of lawn, washing line area, veg plot, green house, shed area and compost heap at the end.
