I'm not trying to start a war and as much as I'm enjoying D3 - I can't help but feel it's a missed opportunity!

I mean Titan Quest for example, a game released around 6 years ago, is arguably better than D3!

Not quite as linear a story with loads more side-quests, more complex (better?) points allocation/skills system, more than acceptable graphics and I really don't see what Diablo 3 has really added to the genre over it!

If anything the gameplay has just become too basic!

As I said, I'm really enjoying D3 but given how long it's been in development, I was really expecting to be wow'ed (no pun intended!)

I have high hopes for Grim Dawn and even Guild Wars 2 to produce something new!

I'm saddened by the fact that they ruined the end game (item hunting) with changing how drops work to fit in with the auction house...

and also by the way they are "fixing" things with patches, they seem to listen to everyone other word and then decide on what to break, i mean fix next.

D2 will always command the best dungeon crawler ever made, but all in all im happy with the game.

it's just BS how they are handling it.

it wasn't in development long, 2 years at the most and they wanted us to think it was longer because they 'care' about the fans lol.

Nope. It's great, got into it far more than I ever could with Titan Quest and Torchlight. :p Each to their own.

Also isn't this like the third or forth thread on the exact same subject.....?

Steam reckons I've put over 180hrs into TQ. Don't think D3 is gonna hold me for a tenth of that. There's a lot wrong with it though it is fun in small doses.

Sorry if it is - I didn't want to post in the D3 thread - just wanted peoples opinions on why it is progress over what was essentially a D2 "clone"! - TQ is better in a lot of ways imo!

Not another QQ thread.

Either go spread your negativity somewhere else or at least talk about it in the D3 thread.

Again, sorry if it's covered elsewhere and I'm not trying to be negative but it doesn't seem to be the advancement I was hoping for!

I agree, the beta left a much better impression on me and I was expecting a much much better game. I still love it though.

The nets filled with such negativity these days =(

I don’t mind the kill anything that moves gameplay but there seems to be nothing to aim for, a major part of the fun for me in TQ (and Guild Wars) was trying to store all your loot and gold with frequent trips back to base to sell/trade/upgrade. That and trying to get the best blend of skills, spells, armour etc for different monsters in different areas that were susceptible to different types of damage ie fire, cold, poison etc. Trying to work out whether to stick an extra skill point into one area or whether to choose a new skill etc.

I have currently found absolutely nothing that the traders or craftsmen can supply me with that is better than random drops that I can get from tanking a group despite spending thousands of gold “training them up”. So the whole point of deciding what to sell, salvage etc just seems pointless, you may as well just drop anything you pick up that isn’t a direct improvement on what you have already.

You never even seem to pick up owt that looks like it “will be good later on when you’ve levelled up a bit so best stick it in storage for now”. Everything you pick up is usable at your current level.

Like you say spells and abilities seem to be very limited and just seem to happen automatically without you really choosing them. I find I can just wade in and melee 90% of stuff without a care in the world. I barely seem to take any damage at all unless it’s a massive group or a boss. You can’t seem to direct your followers (ala Guild wars) so attempts to draw baddies out of groups just don’t seem to work.

It’s kinda like watching a Michael Bay movie, it looks good and is generally enjoyable but if you even try to engage 10% of your brain then there are plot holes and design flaws that you could go caving in.

This thread again? I thought it was locked.

What exactly did you want me to search for to find a thread about this??

I didn't want to post in the D3 thread because it would get lost - all I wanted was peoples thoughts on why D3 is any better than a game that came out 6 years ago!

As good as it is (and it really is!) I just think it is a massive missed opportunity!

yep diablo 3 lacks polish and longevity. the item and skills systems its simplified to its most basic level like wow.

game was rushed out incomplete and it shows

I quite like it, highest character is level 50

but I hate how your ping/ms affects your fps and I feel that 4 acts is way to short.

For a game that's based upon replayability, the level design sucked. The last 2 chapters especially. Descending through the mountain was one of the most monotonous experiences I've ever had as a PC gamer, and the kingdom of heaven was one of the least interesting environments I'd ever layed eyes on.
