Why the difference in price for network cards?

The Intel Gigabit PRO is £29.99 whilst there's some TP-Link and OcUK ones for around a fiver.

I just want a basic Ethernet port that will work and be decent.

Not at all just based my opinion as this is a factor most people cosnider. Without comparing products its hard to determine but its down to personal choice / budget / requirement
 
You get what you pay for when it comes to network cards, it's just that the lower end ones are actually OK for 99% of people and the higher end ones have features most people dont care about.

Personally I prefer Intel ones as I find the drivers better and through puts are higher when thrashed, and so I'm happy to pay the extra.
 
Throughput, reliability, advanced features. Depends on your needs.

For reference I am looking at Dual port 1Gbit Intel cards in the region of £100-120 for my next router/firewall appliance. If you need the throughput and reliability you pays your money.
 
And just so everyone is clear, when people suggest you get what you pay for, that is with 'real' network cards, not the Killer network cards which are just a load of overpriced rubbish.
 
I ordered one (for £5.99) and hopefully it'll come tomorrow morning. It's strange though, an ethernet problem that's made my internet pretty much unusable for the past week right now has fixed itself. No doubt it'll muck up again soon (it's gone through patches where it works fine before).

Still it's strange to be ordering a network card when as of right now my nets working fine.
 
lol wtf, it's working fine this morning aswell. I'm sure it will start being temperamental again soon but at the very least, at least i'll have 2 ports now, so if one decides to be **** i can just plug the ethernet cable into the other one.
