What used to be a UK
along comes another numpty with something new :D

I'm standing in front of an oylmpic bench having just taken the (olympic) bar from it to do some curls and some idiot grabs one from another empty bench and rushes around the side of me to place it on the hooks on the bench in front of me? In the process of rushing past and in front of me he accidently whacks some guy on another bench with the end of the bar? shocked and having been put off my final rep I shouts to him where have you got that bar from because I'm using the one from this bench? Numpty replies and points to the other empty bench saying it doesn't matter does it as they are all the same :D

Putting a question mark at the end of every sentence. Which either means he asked a bloke a completely rhetorical question or just made a balls up in the post.

@ Entropy
The question mark was to illustrate my confusion over the three things the bloke was doing. It wasn't you was it? :p

The question mark (?; also known as an interrogation point, interrogation mark, question point, query or eroteme),[1] is a punctuation mark that replaces the full stop (period) at the end of an interrogative sentence in English and many other languages. The question mark is not used for indirect questions. The question mark character is also often used in place of missing or unknown data.

I see. Out of interest why do you use a bench whilst performing bicep curls? Because it seems odd to me. Do you sit down on the bench or just rest the bar on it? You standing by a bench not using it makes the bench fair game in my eyes bar or no bar.

I don't use the bench for curling. I just took the bar off the hooks from the bench and loaded them with plates. The fixed bars only go up to 50kg. I was standing in front of the bench because there was nobody there and I wouldn't get in anybody's way. Olympic bars are about six foot long etc. Within range of this bench were two others completely free.

Did he apologise to the guy he hit? If not i agree he is a numpty. Otherwise he did something pretty normal you know, moving bars around in a gym..

He was like Monkey with that bar unfortunately. Rushing around with it in his hands horizontally somebody was bound to get hurt. I don't know about an apology but I did see him rubbing the other guy's knee.

You took the bar, so he got another one to use on the bench, i think thats common sense more than anything else. Yes he was clumsy, but what did you want him to do? Stand there and wait for you to finish curling to get the bar that 'belongs' to the bench? :p

Yes it is common sense to take a bar from a bench that was completely free for him to use and rush around like an idiot in a gym holding a six foot bar horizontally only to use it another bench (when there was no need for him to do so).

I take it your gym doesn't have heavy enough dumbbells to curl with then.

What a strange assumption to make? Admittedly the dumbells only go up to 50kg but presumably I can curl with an olympic bar if I want to can't I?

You're the one making a fuss about taking the dedicated bar away from the olympic bench, the reasonable thing to do I would have thought would be take to dumbbells.

And besides, dumbbells give you more flexiblity in finding a grip and bar path that suits you compared to barbells. They require more effort to stablize and can be worked one arm at at time. They also can have increased range of motion compared to the barbell.

It's also not possible for the weaker arm to be carried by the stronger as is the case with barbell movements.

In case people have missed it, the issue was that there were other benches, with bars, that this person could have used. Instead he decided he must use the bench closest to you?

Yes I am for the already explained reasons and the fact that the pratt also jumped in front of me with it so I was unable to complete my reps. Bench fetishism much. This aside I prefer to curl heavy with a barbell as I can alter the length of my grip along the bar: something you cannot do with a dumbell. I can also balance the negative more efficiently as well. Thats not to say I wouldn't use dumbells later in that session though.

Edit: I also prefer (palms facing) medium to close grip pull-downs which enable you to overload the bicep in a way in which you would be unable to do with a dumbell.
