No more btjunkie :-(

On the matter of sites being shut down and blocked, could Opera software be prosecuted for their browser having a feature that renders UK ISP blocking inoperative?

Have you heard of The Promo Bay? TPB are featuring indie artists who don't have labels, they get displayed as the banner on the site, which is a link to their torrent. What does this gain them? Well, TPB gets a few million hits each day, all of them will see the banner. But why would people want to give their work away? Surely its destroying the business?

Also, even large bands use torrents to promote their own work. Others do too.

The industry is clinging to a defunct business model which clearly doesn't function in the digital age.

This is brilliant.

I bet anyone who assist with illegal material will be stopped. Including browsers that aid.

A large proportion of my disposable income goes on gigs and festivals, and I have only paid for a handful of albums in my life...

Wouldn't say they were "aiding" as such, it just happens that one of their popular features (which has been standard for ages) is a built in proxy, which gives your page requests a US ip address.

And newsgroups... Where you actually PAY others to download pirated things! Rather than torrents, which you don't pay anything.

Well there are a lot of things that aid piracy. Sites deny the fact that they are doing this but they are really. Including Google, Browsers, Applications e.t.c.

But it's not an "aid", it's just a feature that defeats the uk isp block. A feature that was implemented several years before the isp block came to be.

Or just use the proxy provided by the Pirate Party UK political party (But which we're not allowed to link to because linking to certain pages on political party websites gets you suspended on here now ;) )

BBC Online said:
Sky has begun blocking access to The Pirate Bay (TPB) ahead of a June 1st deadline. O2 has until June 13th to act, by which time it said it would block access to TPB's main site as well as other IP addresses that the BPI successfully claimed had been set up to enable access to the service.

Torrentfreak has said that it is willing to play "an extended game of whack-a-mole", publicising alternative IP Addresses for TPB in which it would publicise new locations every time the courts ordered one of its addresses to be blocked.

O2 is set to block its customers from accessing file-sharing site The Pirate Bay from 0001 BST on Friday, the internet service provider has said.

Scumbags.

I don't use torrents so it doesn't really affect me, its just the principle of the matter, if they cave to block TPB then where does it stop?

Are they going to block every site when getting pressured by whoever feels slighted?
