There was also the wifi battery drain issue that was being reported but again I didn't experience that problem too! I must have been lucky!![]()
You reminded me about the Nexus which I totally forgot about, that was an incredible phone and HTC did a really great job with it. I had a hard time choosing between the Nexus and Desire but in the end the Nexus won out!
who knows but if the S3 can still hold its own against other new phones this time next year like the S2 did then Samsung has done its job well.
Going back to the internet browsing I'd say that the One S is literally milliseconds behind the S3 what I prefer the One S for is the text reflow and scrolling up and down pages. Text reflow is very useful whereas the S3 even if you check the auto fit pages option you still have to manually adjust the size of the page where as the One S does that automatically for you. The scrolling on the One S is rapid whereas Samsung has taken the fast decreasing to slow speed approach which looks nice but I like the rapid approach taken by HTC.
GSMarena were practically glowing about the One S even more so than the One X, up until the S3 review I've never read such a positive review from them![]()
I still don't understand why they didn't use the S4 chip in the UK version of the One X and it goes to show how good the S4 chip is that Samsung have grabbed the rest of Qualcomm's stash of S4 chips for the LTE S3.
I like BS player and its more feature packed than MX Player and the fact that you can customize it is a bonus, unfortunately I had already paid for MX Player and didn't want to waste the money I had paid for the app! i also like the way BS player searches for online subs when opening a film, that's a nice touch!
The point you touched on in regards to the notification light on the One S is spot on. You can barely notice it and say for example when I've walked into the room and have to look for the notification light on the phone to see if i've missed a call or received a text
The damn light's in your face and in a darkened room it illuminates the room just to let you know that you missed something!![]()
I immediately bought a 64gb micro sd card and have put most of my music collection on there and complete TV series and a couple of films and I still have 20gb+ spare to play with, that's what I like about the S3 and watching films / browsing on the massive screen is a joy, I'm happy that I have the S3 with me on the train and in the gym as it doubles as my PMP.
the only thing that worries me is the size of the games and how much they'll eat the internal memory especially in the One S. Even with emulators all those ROMS do eat up space but it's worth it, I'm kind of thinking that HTC always bring out revamped versions of their phones, do you think that they'll release a HTC One X / S special edition at some point?
How are you finding the battery? I think it's superb with mid - heavy use I'm getting 17 hours use from it!![]()
Browsing on a phone is great until you come across a wall of text like this Page![]()

Hah I would happily join in but I only have like 1 phone every 3 years so can't say much about similar phones![]()
No need to apologise Mate it's good to have a healthy and actually helpful discussion on here so it's all good. Your fingers must be tired from all the typing! LOL!!
Thanks for the screen shots re battery usage, they're very impressive stats especially the screen on time, those stats show a great deal of varied usage which would've easily killed most smartphones within 8 hours or so. It just goes to show you that the S4 chip with its architecture has been optimised well, I bet your One S doesn't even heat up much. Kudos to HTC for going with the S4 chip in the One S, that's why is such a formidable phone.
Going back to the Nexus One, I've owned most of the high end Android phones and I have to say other than the S2 the Nexus One was easily the best phone I've ever owned. It was well constructed and looked gorgeous and it was a trend setter in the tech states and TBH all the subsequent Nexus phones have failed to ignite me the way that the Nexus One did. I've purchased the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus but they didn't have that something special that the Nexus One did.
Going back to the notification light on the One S I read somewhere that there's a bug that stops the light from constantly staying on and it switches itself off after 5 mins of blinking so that's why you and I miss the notification light as it's switched itself off.
I don't know why HTC placed such a small light in the speaker grill at the top of the phone as it's hard to see in the first place! You're right it is tacky the way HTC have implemented the feature, it's like it was an afterthought on their behalf!
Granted that is true however HTC also need to concentrate on QC which has plagued the HTC One X and S to differing degrees and they need to put together a superior phone that ticks all the boxes. Granted that there's no such thing as a perfect smart phone and there never will be however omitting things like a sd card slot and removable battery does actually matter to the consumer who is in the know.
Maybe HTC will be using the S4 Pro chips when Qualcomm gets around to releasing it towards the end of the year the pro chip is supposed to be "the" chip and has the new Adreno 320 graphics chip which is reported to be powerful and very efficient. Maybe HTC will use the S4 Pro chips in future releases. Rumour has it that Sony has dibs on the chip and will be releasing a flagship Android phone in Q3 that will utilise the power in the S4 chip... We'll wait and see what happens eh?
Like you said we have powerful phones right here..right now all we need is something to make use of the power!
How's your fingers Mate? I have writers cramp and I guess others reading this thread have eye ache!!! LOL!!!
@Skillmister Good choice! I'm sure you've got something to say about the One S? How does it compare to the last phone you had?
@Nexus18 It's a highly enjoyable discussion! Even though it is a wall of text!! So what!! LOL!
Did you disable the apps via the inbuilt way or have you rooted your One S and frozen apps via Titanium? Granted with HTC there's some bloatware but not as much as there is on Touchwiz. Seriously some user is reporting 8 hours on screen time on another ROM? That's absolutely insane!!
If the One S didn't have the S4 I would've waited for the S3, my hand was forced as I prematurely sold my S2 to get the One X which as you know I found highly disappointing then I got stuck with an old Nokia E51 whilst I got the mess with the defective One S's sorted out but once I did I was so glad I made the right choice. I had a massive debate with my friend who bought a One X and he swears blind that its the better phone and in many ways it is but it's hampered by an ageing SoC in Tegra 3 and the battery life is seriously flawed.
You jogged my memory about the Nexus One, from a nostalgic point of view it would be the Nexus One followed by the One S then the S2 and finally the S3 (because it's so new) but from the best Android point of view it would be the S3, One S, then S2!! LOL!!
In terms of the Nexus One, Google seriously bombed out when it came to marketing it, that's why the Google store flopped, Google seriously thought that their name alone would sell millions but it backfired on them. It was rather simple to buy it online via Google however the lack of advertisements and the like meant that the Nexus One was a niche phone.
Google have now taken to selling the Galaxy Nexus on Play, apparently those in USA have the option of buying it via their Play account and if rumours are true there will be 5 Nexus phones available to buy in November all through our Play accounts across the world. If this rumour is true it'll be awesome!!!
The Galaxy Nexus was a good phone but being at the time the battery life was dire, not as bad as the One X and ICS was extremely buggy but I guess that's the price you pay being an early adopter. I couldn't deal with the buggy software and apart from ICS and HD screen the Galaxy Nexus didn't really offer very much over the S2 at the time.
I heard that there was another software update over in USA a few days ago, it may have been to address specific T Mobile issues, but normally HTC are spot on when releasing firmware updates after all the One X has had three updates in since it was released. You can look at this in two ways either HTC released a very buggy phone or their support is superb!!! Either way there will be another firmware update in the near future for the One S.
Maybe HTC won't release updated versions of the One X / S, you're right that they will alienate a lot of consumers, unlike SE who released the updated version of the Arc and even Samsung who released many variants of the S2...who knows what plans HTC have as they have been quite on the new phone front and seem very keen on pushing the One series phones which can be seen as a positive thing.
I was also worried about the non removable battery but having called HTC UK customer services a few times because of the issues I faced with the One X, they were extremely helpful and my fears were allayed so sending the phone back under warranty to get the battery changed won't be a problem.
I'm not to keen on SE (Sony) phones for some reason, they seem bland to my eye, they're trying to make an effort in regards to firmware updates and have improved considerably and their skinning of Android is rather less intrusive than the likes of HTC and Samsung, but there's something about their phones I just don't like...
If you've rooted your phone how long did it take Mate? Was it a chore to unlock the bootloader?
Haha.......this page is getting longer!!!
This is a good Page to test Web scrolling and flicking smoothness![]()
Apologies for the short post![]()
Email form CPW saying it's out of stock and have to wait a little longer - bah.
Sarge - did you get the same email?
Damn, unlucky
At least on the bright side, you will be more likely to get the newer batch that have the new design, therefore hopefully guaranteed to have chipping issues
I imagine that they must be selling like hotcakes with that deal! Or just very limited stock!![]()
